Not charging Premium Plus for 2k texture uploads
Zeth Starlight
Almost two years ago, when Premium plus was first announced, we were told that that all texture, sound and animation uploads were going to be eliminated, along with mesh uploads(which we never got). We did get the texture, sound, and animation uploads eliminated which gave content creators breathing room and helped boost innovation and creation. This was mentioned by the lindens during your meet the lindens segment for SL's 19th Birthday celebration.
While watching the April 2024 Lab gab, the news was dropped by Signal Linden that you were going to start charging premium plus members for texture uploads for the new 2k textures uploads.
Not only does it look like you guys aren't keeping your word on providing what you told the community you would(mesh uploads), but now you want to go back on your word(Free texture uploads). Even trying to use pretty words to soften the blow calling it a "bargain price". Now with PBR being added to the grid, we are looking at 4-5 textures being uploaded per mesh object if not more depending if an objects requires multiple materials. This is not including creators wanting to update any of their old content to the new resolution, who will most likely forgo updating any of their old content because it will eat into their budget now.
Conclusion: I do think you guys need to show the community good faith and do right by us by keeping to what you promised to those who paid in and supported this new premium tier. Support your creators who joined this to help boost innovation and content creation in Second life. The reason 2k Textures are being added is to help improve SL's quality. Don't stifle the creation with nickel and dime tactics, otherwise people will just stick with the 1024 and we won't ever move past this.

4 "free" 1K textures on an object are WORSE than a single 2k texture.
Charging for 2K just means creators will tile 1K textures.
With PBR this means that instead of a single object with a single face and 4x 2k textures. It will have 4 faces and 16 1k textures.
An object with 2 faces will go from 8 2k images to 32 1k images. This is horrible for performance.
Just to save L$40 / L$80
If you don't think this is what's going to happen. You haven't been paying attention to SL for the last 20 years.

Again getting fucked by Linden ! Thanks !

I agree to this too. When I signed up it said all texture uploads where free, not some.

Free uploads was a major part of the reason I went to Premium Plus. If they take that away, it will be just wrong. When you make a deal with someone, you ought to stick with it. If residents all went Premium Plus and then decided "Well, we're going to keep our Premium Plus accounts but we're only going to pay Premium account level prices" Linden Lab would cancel those Premium Plus accounts in a heartbeat. Why? Because we would be breaking our part of the agreement. They should be expected to keep their part also.

Double post due to system telling me it could not post my comment, and posting it without showing me it did anyway.

Last I heard the mesh excuse was that they didn't want to drop the complexity penalty to keep discouraging mesh that would be difficult for the system- still completely ignoring the obvious solution of keep the L per complexity fee, but drop the 10L per upload session and 1L per object fees.
I'm sure the 2k textures fee is similar: instead of dealing with the fact that 2k textures might be too much of the system, trying to limit their usage with the fees. Which...well...come on. Pick one. We can support that, or we can't support that. If you do not WANT people to upload 2k textures, you can just...not let them. If you want to support 2k textures, then support them.

Allegory Malaprop I suggested in another topic about the 2k that they could 'encourage' or 'discourage' 2k texture use by calculating the amount of textures or load used into the LI.
Perhaps this could allow them to keep their promise for upload prices, but come to it from another angle: encouraging optimal texture use.

Strongly agree 👍

se dovrò pagare di nuovo le texture sicuramente non rinnoverò il premium plus, tornerò all'account non premium

I agree, this is the main reason I bought Premium Plus.
