llGetGroupKey(key id);

hi,
has anyone ever asked for a function called llGetGroupKey(key id);?
A function like this would make it easier for many stores to rez group gift giver in any group instead of the landholding group. llSameGroup & llDetectedGroup are not an option if it is group owned land and the store uses a different group.

I think this just moves the problem. Somewhere the script has to be told which group
Also, by having the giver object be set to the target group, it's easier to determine what group one has to join to receive the gift or whatever.
Also, I think this change would violate LL's privacy policy. (Yes, I know that other LL functions also violate the privacy policy. And that there are products on Marketplace that rely on these functions. Many do not expose the information they use, though some actually advertise that they expose the information.)

Definitely would make things cleaner and easier, i been using the work around mentioned here.

If this is accepted, we wouldn't need a new function. llGetObjectDetails() and OBJECT_GROUP could just be updated to return a key instead of NULL_KEY when targeting an agent who has a group tag.

It has been suggested multiple times on the old JIRA. I was under the impression that old issues were supposed to be ported over, but oh well...
Here is a workaround, in case you were unaware of it:
// get the the list of attachments for the avatar
list parts = llGetAttachedList (inAvatar);
if (llGetListLength (parts) > 0)
{
// If the avatar has any attachments then just get the
// group key for the first attachment.
list parts2 = llGetObjectDetails (llList2Key (parts, 0), [OBJECT_GROUP]);
result = llList2Key (parts2, 0);
}

Peter Stindberg An imperfect solution; as the code hints, it's notably not useful if the avatar has no attachments, or only HUD attachments. But it's a lot better than most people think!

Your example of recognizing whether certain attachments are attached to the right group is also interesting, but in my example it is simply a matter of whether an avatar has the desired group active and not the group with which an object is rezzed. :)

Daemonika Nightfire Attachments worn show the group the agent currently uses, not the group the attachment was (last) rezzed under. Or did I misunderstand your comment?

Peter Stindberg Thanks for the hint, years ago it was different, the attachments kept the group they were attached with, no matter how often the avatar changed the group.
