Unpack / Unbox items directly to inventory
tracked
Fullperm Alpha
Unpacking items requires a sandbox or proper rights. First you rez the item, then you open it, copy it to your inventory (root folder), and finally you clean up the mess on the land (if its done - leaving a mess). Optionally you move the box and unpacked folder to the appropriate place in your personal inventory.
This process is not very intuitive and unnecessarily time consuming (especially for noobs).
I would suggest making it possible to rightclick a box in inventory and unpack it directly to the inventory where the box is located. The same familar way how you handle zip folders on your desktop.
Best regards.

Would like ability to OPEN a worn box

If we rez a box we can right click and OPEN it, creating a folder in our inventory. It would be very nice to have the same ability when the box is WORN so we can open a box in no-rez areas. This would be especially handy when we are shopping and wish to open merchandise we just bought.

This would be a very nice thing. <3 Very much +1'd

oh YES! soooooo many times i wanted to do that!

Follow up: In addition it would be nice if the OPEN function would bring even No Copy items to our inventory as well (along with the standard warning, of course). I've been told currently it does not, leaving a lotta people scratching their heads wondering where their newly opened inventory is.
Bloodsong Termagant
it does work with no copy items.
you hit OPEN, you hit COPY TO INVENTORY.
it pops up and says 'blah blah has no copy items, they will be MOVED to your inventory, not copied.' you say yes, blam, everything is in inventory. all no copy items are no longer in the box.
unless LL changed something on the standard viewer. iunno.

Bloodsong Termagant Thanks Blood. I'll try that next time I get a chance. I had two people tell me it doesn't work so, will have to test.
hey... send me a box with a notecard and a nocopy item and I'll test it! : )

Clarification: Bloodsong and I discussed in-world and he confirmed that attached (HUD) items cannot give no-copy items.
Eren Padar
Bloodsong Termagant Further information: Bloodsong sent me two identical objects to test: one to rez and one to attach as worn or as a HUD. If the rezzed object was opened, ALL contents went into a new inventory folder (including no-copy). However if the item was WORN either as an attachment or HUD, the no-copy items could in no way be taken to inventory (they could not be drag-dropped into a folder). This seems inconsistent in operation.
Thus the purpose of the OP. We desire the ability to be able to FULLY OPEN a box that we are wearing, either as an attached item or as a HUD. In addition, no-copy items need to transfer to inventory just like all other objects. That way we can open boxes we buy / obtain even in no-rez areas... which makes it easier to keep our inventories straight and keep track of new items.

...That's not really helpful.

I like this proposal but it is possible to unpack without rezzable land use. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2k83Qd5i8zo
