Offlines not appearing on log in until relogging
under review

Sasy Scarborough
Logging in knowing that offlines have happened (seeing them via email) to find nothing on log in. Relogging and all offlines appear, notices, drop downs, and IMs. Has been happening for at least a week now.

Dan Linden I think this has started affecting businesses that send reminders via IMs, at least it has started affecting some of my clients. As I run rentals we have both object IMs and avatar IMs that serve the purpose and it looks like those who are unaware of this bug are missing the reminders and thus getting evicted unless I catch them online or send notecard hoping they would check it. So please try to fix it at the earliest. Firestorm is preparing to release soon so if this bugs get into that release its going to be a chaos for many subscription model businesses and even customer support.

Maestro Linden Was unable to do the support ticket under the type ... as instructed so I have put it under technical questions - inworld issues #2359795

Maestro Linden Just received a reply to that ticket I had raised as per your instructions asking if anything has changed on my end and whether I am still experiencing it. I use firestorm betas so ya, they are still doing that, and I have been noticing many are asking the same in the beta group. And I was able to reproduce that bug on the latest SL Viewer also so I have sent the new log files.

I've had this happen on several occasions.. just this evening actually,
I logged in and was sure I had saved IMs for being offline a few days, I logged out and back in, and they all arrived.
I'm not sure how to reproduce it on demand, but I'm using Second Life Release 7.1.13.14343205944 (64bit)
and the Sim I was on when I relogged was running Second Life Server 2025-04-24.14648572313
and like Tantrica says, blocking and unblocking will make them arrive instantly, I did not do that this time however.

Both the viewer and simulator are involved in the fetching of offline IMs. After login, the viewer polls for offline IMs by POSTing to the simulator's ReadOfflineMsgs capability. When it makes this request, it prints the following:
2025-05-13T17:48:54Z INFO #Messaging# newview/llimprocessing.cpp(1578) requestOfflineMessagesCoro : Processing offline messages.
The ReadOfflineMsgs response from the simulator includes the offline messages. When this delivery occurs, the stored offline messages are deleted.
Given that you're able to fetch the offline IMs in a 2nd attempt, I suspect that your viewer is not making the ReadOfflineMsgs capability request to fetch messages in the session that failed to fetch any messages. Otherwise, the messages would have been deleted after the 1st attempt and you would have never seen them.
I tried and failed to reproduce offline IM fetching failures when using either Second Life Release 7.1.13.14343205944 viewer or Firestorm 7.1.11 (76496) (which is the current release), after several attempts on both versions. I sent my alt an offline message, then had them login to a Second Life Server 2025-04-24.14648572313 region (which is deployed grid-wide at the moment) a few minutes later and confirm if the message was fetched properly. On each occasion, the alt received the offline message on the first attempt.
I suspect there's a regression in the Firestorm build you're running. Are you able to reproduce this bug with the Second Life Release 7.1.13.14343205944 viewer? You can get that viewer from https://get.secondlife.com
If the issue does reproduce for you with the Second Life Release 7.1.13.14343205944 viewer, we need your viewer's SecondLife logs in order to investigate further. Please reproduce the issue, log out, and then zip up your viewer logs folder. This page tells you where to find the logs folder: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-report-a-bug/ta-p/733545#Section_.3
Next, log into https://support.secondlife.com/ and click the "Submit a Support Case" in the right column, then choose Issue Type: “…” and type “logs for canny issue” and add the link to this canny issue. Click the “Attach a file” link at the bottom and attach the zip file.
Leave a comment on this canny issue once that's done so we can take a look at the logs.

Maestro Linden
Tantrica Banana Sasy Scarborough Derek Galaxy any luck on reproducing it in the Second Life Release 7.1.13.14343205944 viewer and gathering logs from that session?

so i kept my Firestorm log when i logged in. i searched then the text for "requestOfflineMessagesCoro". it was nowhere to be found.
BUT! then i blocked a random person.
this is what happens AFTER i blocked:
2025-05-20T19:16:08Z WARNING # newview/llmutelist.cpp(394) LLMuteList::updateAdd : Added elements to non-initialized block list
2025-05-20T19:16:09Z INFO #Messaging# newview/llimprocessing.cpp(2330) LLIMProcessing::requestOfflineMessagesCoro : Processing offline messages.
and then they all appeared, the offlines.

Maestro Linden
Tantrica Banana: Okay, this points to a viewer bug - rather than fetching offline messages when you would expect, it apparently deferred the operation. Since this bug appears to be specific to the prerelease version of Firestorm that you're running, I would recommend you file the bug with them.

Derek Galaxy has in his post in this thread used a Second LIfe viewer he says

Maestro Linden
Tantrica Banana: Good point. I still can't reproduce this issue with Second Life Release 7.1.13.14343205944. Moving to viewer bugs given the log evidence. That team will definitely need full logs from an example session.

Maestro Linden I have noticed this issue with the last 3 betas of Firestorm, not that sure when it started with Second Life viewer, but it does happen with the latest one. I also noticed that the relog should occur within a few minutes for the offline IMs to appear, so to reproduce the bug, try logging in 10 minutes or more after the session where the IMs failed to fetch.
I have also left a log for the example session via support ticket, I hope that helps.

Derek Galaxy
Maestro Linden, Unfortunately when I want it to happen it doesn't! I have not had a lot of time to try reproducing it, but the times i have logged in recently, it has not occurred. I will update if it happens again.

Tantrica Banana
yes. and if you log in and randomly block someone from your friendslist and then unblock them again, all messages appear
meaning....
if i log in, block and unblock someone, they all pop-up
