Change Linden Home selection process
tracked
Matthieu Quander
The current process for Linden Homes selections allows for residents to receive the same parcel repeatedly even when there is an ample supply of available homes for the desired theme. This effectively renders the "5 selections per 24-hour" rule moot, and results in a very frustrating house hunting experience for residents.
Please change the process so all available homes are rotated into the active queue on a regular basis.
Thank you.

Matthieu your original post was dated April 15th, 2024, that's over two years ago now. We've never received a satisfactory explanation of why this broken system has not been tackled.

Please, please fix this.

I’m begging you: please fix the Linden Home assignment system!!!

I think most of us have already accepted the 5 Linden Home swaps every 24h, but what’s truly awful is when the system keeps sending us back to the exact same parcel we just abandoned!
I’ve been trying to find my ideal spot in the Traditional Linden Homes area, which has (believe it or not!) over 1,300 different parcels available. And yet, the system keeps assigning me the same ones I just left.
For example: yesterday I abandoned the home where I had stayed for 24h. On my first try, the system sent me right back to that exact same parcel. Second try? Same place. Third try? SAME AGAIN. I wasted 3 attempts in a row for absolutely nothing. It’s incredibly irritating and frustrating.
Today, almost the same thing happened again: two of my tries sent me straight back to the same parcel. And when my next attempts reset in a few hours, I’ll probably end up there again, because of how broken this system is.
And yes, I know that if I pay for Premium Plus I can pick an exact parcel, but that’s not the point. The point is: what’s the use of having 5 attempts per day if the system just keeps sending me into the same place? It makes no sense!
When someone abandons a parcel, the system could at least block that same lot from being reassigned to them again for a while (even if it’s just for 1 or 2 minutes). Something like that would already make a huge difference. Please, do something about this!

I've recently experienced this. There is no other way to try and find a new home other than abandoning and choosing another random one. You go to it, check it out, and if you don't like the location you have to abandon it again and pick another one at random. This is such a bad system. I understand the limit, but you limit it without giving users another way to transact. There should be a board in world, or a list showing vacancies so we can visit them first then click something to own it if we don't have a home already. I just went through 5 tries, did not like any of the locations and now I am stuck without a home for 24 hours. But there is no other way to accomplish this.

Thank you all for your reports about this issue. Our web team has been made aware that there may be an issue, and will review it at some point in the future.
We recommend clearing your web browser cache and cookies periodically, as well as restarting your home network, just as general troubleshooting. Relogging in your viewer can also help clear older information out.

Oatmeal Linden Thank you. This has been a problem for a long time now; ref https://feedback.secondlife.com/ldpw/p/change-linden-home-selection-process for example.

Oatmeal Linden Great! if we can assist the person/team investigating this, please do not hesitate to ask.
Good advice for general internet health. However, I think we can rule out clearing browser cache, viewer relogging, and browser restarting as cures for this issue, as all have been tested by me, many times, in the past. Also, I'm sure the issue is not that the allocation algorithm believes I've never abandoned a parcel, as it will often offer one of a small SET of, say, 2-4 unpopular parcels. And, of course, often a 'new' parcel .... but when I was doing record-keeping on this issue, very rarely was I able to try 5 times within 24 hours without getting repeats. Generally, roughly 30% of the parcels I claimed were repeats of recently claimed parcels.
It is easiest to reproduce this issue on a theme that has a LOT of unclaimed inventory, and not a lot of people searching for parcels. It really looks like a queue management issue.

Oatmeal Linden Well, from yesterday to today I’ve already been assigned to the same parcel three times, two of those times happened consecutively just today. After so much frustration, I decided yesterday to start a Google Docs spreadsheet where I’m recording all the data from my 5 daily attempts (starting yesterday).
I’m logging: acquisition date, acquisition time (SLT), house type, location, abandonment date, and abandonment time (SLT).
I hope you, or someone responsible, can take a look at this spreadsheet. Anyone curious is also welcome, it’s public. I plan to update it every day until I finally get a parcel that I like (hopefully tomorrow, lol).

Oatmeal Linden Today I only had 1 real attempt, all of the other 4 were duplicate parcels. I can’t even put into words how sad, frustrated, and upset I am about this.
I don’t know if you’ve been following the spreadsheet I’ve been updating every day, but please take a look now to see the situation. This is not fair, you advertise 5 attempts per day, but if I’m not receiving 5 different parcels, then in practice it’s not really 5 attempts. It just doesn’t make sense.
There are specific parcels I’ve already been assigned to 5 times or more, while thousands of others remain available. Even worse, many of those are great parcels that have been abandoned for a very long time. I’ve seen amazing ones sitting unused since 2023 and 2024.
Once again, I beg you, this issue needs to be fixed as soon as possible. I’m not the only one frustrated with this, just look at the other feedback posts and the forums to see the flood of people disappointed with this completely broken system. Please, we truly need this to be fixed, or at least for the Lindens to give some kind of explanation as to why the system is so unfair.

I became a premium plus member thinking I could get the house I wanted. There are exclusive homes for premium plus. My first day, I was unable to get any house in the region I wanted to be in. When a house finally became available, I didn't like the surroundings, so I abandoned it, selected another and was sent back to the same one. As a premium plus, I cannot select my own, because there rarely are any available. Every so often, if you have patience to wait for one to come up, you have to move fast to abandon the one you have and grab the next one before it's gone. And most of the time you end up with the same one. Premium plus payers have fewer choices and not enough houses.

See these existing threads. Some are asking the same as you are, more or less, while others are only tangentially related.
As you can see, the issue you raise, about being offered the same home multiple times in a single 24hr period, has come up before. Thus far, nothing has changed, as far as I am aware.
03h00 Resident
Miro Collas Yes, this issue has been raised for a long time, and unfortunately nothing has been done so far... That’s exactly why, in my opinion, we shouldn’t let this topic die until it gets fixed, because it’s simply not fair.
Wicked Nightfall
It is the system working against you when it should be a fair 5 tries. You aren't getting 5 tries if you are getting sent back the same place.
We shouldn't be required to pay for premium+ to have a fair system, especially when all we want to do is find a patch of digital land to settle down on.

There were like 132 new homes on the Aspen page... I have multiple alts and kept getting the same 3 homes over and over. This is ridiculous. It needs to be fixed. Out of about 40 rolls, I saw a total of 4 unique homes.
