Apple Silicon: Unable to log in with viewer 7.1.9.10220184061 - Atlasaurus
complete
Lou Netizen
- Install Viewer 7.1.9.10220184061 - Atlasaurus from disk image
- Launch Viewer
- Attempt to log in using a valid account and location
RESULT: Viewer begins to process login, displays "Requesting region capabilities, attempt 2" and crashes.
I would include the tail of SecondLife.log but Canny will not accept a text attachment.

Thank you for the report, Lou!
We have not been able to reproduce this crash. If you are willing, please see if this test viewer is able to log in on your system. The crash may be fixed with this build, and if not, we'll get useful data from the crash report.
The top menu bar will be red when you log in, and that is expected for this Test viewer.

Dan Linden Same crash. How do I send a crash log?
Dan Linden
Lou Netizen: If you start that viewer once more, it will automatically send us the crash report from the previous session. (This only applies to Mac. On Windows, it sends the crash report immediately.)
I don't see a crash report from your viewer yet.
Lou Netizen
Dan Linden Thanks—that's easy! There should be a couple crash reports now. :)
Dan Linden
Lou Netizen: Yes, I see them! Thank you.
Dan Linden
Lou Netizen: We have a new Test build that should fix the crash. Are you able to log in with this viewer? https://github.com/secondlife/viewer/releases/download/Second_Life_Test%234e6143f-webrtc/Second_Life_Test_7_1_9_10380590526_x86_64.dmg

Dan Linden No: same behaviour as before. Gets to "requesting region capabilities, attempt 2" and crashes.
If I understand the logging system, there should be a couple new logs from this build you can look at. I'm happy to provide any additional information that might be useful. Thanks for chasing this!
Dan Linden
Lou Netizen: We see the crash reports. Thank you!

Lou Netizen: A question from our developers. Do you know if your computer has any virtual audio devices or non-standard audio devices? They should be listed in the Mac menu > System Settings > Sound. Under the Output & Input section, click Output button and the Input button and see what is listed, Name & Type.
Lou Netizen
Dan Linden Yep they all do. I'm a musician. The Mac I'm using at the moment has a MOTU M6 audio interface connected via USB C; it also has a DisplayPort monitor that in theory can be used as audio output although I've never done that. I also have access to a MOTU 828x—that connects via USB-2. Another Mac I use (also Apple Silicon) has a MOTU M2 via USB-C (and, again, a display that can theoretically do audio output but I've never done it). I sometimes use a third Mac with a Scarlett 8i6 (USB-C).
The MOTU and Scarlet devices all support a number of simultaneous inputs: basically the M6 and M2 do six and two, respectively, the Scarlet does 6, and the 828x I think can do up to 16.
None of these Macs have built-in audio input—no mics.
I don't typically have audio or voice enabled in SL, although I will turn on audio if I am scripting something that requires audio. If I recall, Vivox voice would only work with the first input on any of these audio interfaces: there was no way to tell it "no, really, please use channel six, I have an SM57 in the other room running into channel 1 right now."

Lou Netizen: Some more developer questions:
Does google meet work with the M6 audio interface (eg. can you set up a meet between two computers)? Trying to determine how compatible other apps are with the M6 audio interface.
Is the device driver for that device current on your machine?
Are you able to login with Second Life Test 7.1.9.10380590526 without crashing if voice is disabled?

re: Google Meet: I have no idea, and I don't have a Google account.
re: how compatible other apps are with the M6 audio interface: I don't run every app under the sun, but I have no known compatibility issues with any other apps, including numerous music production apps and previous versions of the Linden Lab viewer. I've been using various MOTU hardware with the Linden Viewer since 2013.
re: is the device driver current: Yes. MOTU M-Series, Mac v95979 | Aug. 13, 2024; Firmware: Mac v2024.6 | Aug. 13, 2024
re: Are you able to login with Second Life Test 7.1.9.10380590526 without crashing if voice is disabled? No. Voice hasn't been enabled during any of these crashes. I probably haven't attempted to enable voice since April 2024 (judging from chat log timestamps).

Lou Netizen: Thank you for answering so many questions. We appreciate it!
This viewer should run without crashing on your system: https://github.com/secondlife/viewer/releases/download/Second_Life_Release%231d017b7/Second_Life_7_1_9_10471551637_x86_64.dmg
