My partner and I have had similar issues recently - while standing next to each other in the same region, local voice works fine. But if we try to do a private call just between the two of us, it doesn't work. The call connects, but neither of us can hear the other.
The voice visualizer (green waves from the 'dot') is visible to each of us individually - I see mine when I'm speaking, and she sees hers. We don't see each other's though, in addition to not being able to hear each other.
We had this happen in our home region of November. Haven't tried popping over to a webRTC region yet, but we can give that a shot to see what happens.

Hi Darcy Darkheart thanks for the report. I suspect the issue you're seeing with group voice calls is an artifact of the Second Life grid currently being in a transitional state with respect to voice chat technologies. Some general information about this change can be found on the wiki: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/WebRTC_Voice
Per your 'About Second Life' information, you were on a Vivox voice region at the time of the call. If some of the other group members on the call were on a webRTC voice region, there might be a compatibility issue. This compatibility problem will go away once we fully transition to webRTC.
Could you try another test, to see if your viewer works properly in webRTC mode?
- Have yourself and 1 or more friends visit regions configured for webRTC voice. Any region on the 'Second Life Preflight' channel will do; regions "webRTC voice 1" and "webRTC voice 2" should be convenient.
- Confirm with your friend(s) that spatial voice chat is working OK in webRTC mode
- Have any user initiate a group voice call in a _different_ group than what you had recently used for Vivox-mode voice chat. Using a "fresh" group will ensure that the call is using webRTC rather than Vivox.
- Note if the group voice call is working or failing
If you're still seeing a failure in a webRTC-mode group call, we would like some information from you, including:
- What the failure mode looks like. Were all users seemingly able to join the call? If joined, were the voice indicators (green lines) appearing when people try to speak, or not?
- A viewer log from the session that had the failure. To get and send the appropriate viewer log, please do the following:
- Log out, and then zip up your viewer logs folder. This page tells you where to find the logs folder: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-report-a-bug/ta-p/733545#Section_.3
- Next, email the zip file to bug-attachments@lindenlab.com and reference the issue name in the email subject line.
- Leave a comment on this canny issue once that's done so we can take a look at the logs.
