data use seems up massively in newest viewers

Using the latest SL Viewer, data usage seems about double from earlier versions - specifically the latest full release of FS v7.1.11
Visiting a single store and caming around for a short time (app 20 minutes) uses 2.63 GB according to Windows. Visiting the same store on FS (7.1.11) and caming around in similar fashion uses 1.37 GB of data.
Both viewers are on MID-ish settings, no mirrors, some reflections, DD of around 64M.
Yesterday I visited about 10 stores and used almost 10 GB of data. At this rate, I will start to run into data limit issues with my ISP pretty quickly on the new viewers (the issue also seems to affect FS recent beta versions)

Yeah the "fix" for me was I had my cache size whatever it had been from time eternal, like 2GB or something, and had never upped it as SL textures were getting larger. I upped mine (this was all in FS) to 20GB - I also upped my cache in the LL viewer - and the issue went away. Maybe the cache was thrashing, but upping it made it large enough to not have to re-download over and over.
Since that time a year ago, I had to clear my cache once when it got full in FS, and now I see it's 75% full again. I don't' mind clearing it periodically if that helps avoid the issue.
I never exactly duplicated Loni's issue - her "thrashing" seemed much worse than even mine was.
RE: your question - The cache does appear to me be used over time in both FS and LL viewer.
I appreciate you all looking at this even a year later :) Thank you. :)
Oh Baby
Wow, this was all a year ago. Interesting that it comes up now as I'm noticing some oddly elevated data usage recently, though not like it was. We dug into this issue pretty deeply with Beq Janus of Firestorm last year, and never quite came up with an answer...it just largely stopped being a problem and I couldn't reproduce it anymore. I do think it ended up being some issue with the cache not being read correctly, I think Beq called it "cache thrashing" at one point. I could sit there and watch textures being downloaded at full bandwidth ad infinitum in the performance floater.
In any event, here's a link to the Firestorm JIRA where we discussed all of this at length last year; it might be helpful: https://jira.firestormviewer.org/browse/FIRE-35096
Thank you, Jellyfish

Can you double check that the cache folder is being used? You can find it listed under Preferences -> Advanced -> Cache Location. Just check if that folder exists and if it fills up as you go to stores.
