SL Viewer freezes when toggling away to another computer, via a KVM

When the SL viewer is running, and I toggle to another computer and then toggle back, the SL viewer freezes / is non-responsive. Also, any typing I do with other programs is affected, where characters are dropped and others are repeated.
After about 2-3 minutes, SL viewer will occasionally un-freeze and resume as normal but in most cases I have to kill it and start the viewer again.
UPDATE: Just toggled and SL viewer again froze. However, I can still hear regional audio from the viewer, so it makes me wonder if its just the visual aspect that is frozen.

Orion Greymoon Out of curiosity, when you tested with ExtraFPS, did you alter the values for the new controls shown below (not sure where in the SL viewer they are this is their rendition in a Firestorm from the future.
Do you see either of the popups telling you that you got shunted out of memory for loss of focus/minimisation?
Try setting them both to 0 (disabled) and try again.
(Point of note, I have no issues with windows at all with my KVM (a "basic" KCEVE 4K Dual DP/USB KVM, toggling between windows and linux mutliple times a day. I have found that the Linux viewer will occasionally have died when i return but I've not dug into that, it is likely unrelated to the swtiching.)

Beq Janus Thanks for the feedback. I did not make any changes from the default install before I did the test, as I didn't want to introduce any additional issues inadvertently.
Looking at the SL View now, I don't see that option as being available / shown, even via search, so either I just can't find it or it's not surfaced.
I agree; I've had no issues at all with using KVMs, until this last release; it's always worked perfectly, which I would expect. The whole UI goes dead though I can still hear sounds from the region I'm in, which tells me that Firestorm / SL Viewer is not dead, just the UI.
There is nothing in the WIndows logs, such as they are, that indicates any issue with memory starvations, GPU issues, etc.

Orion Greymoon this may seem a random question. Does the same happen when you manually unplug/plug the devices that are connected to the KVM?
My SL partner has had an issue for a longtime now (not tied to 7.X) where plugging in a USB device (specifically her phone) causes the viewer to hang for a long time and frequently not recover. We've not dig too deeply into this but it is related to the joystick detection/USB polling IIRC. I am wondering therefore if the toggling of the KVM is actually just a trigger to the rescanning of USB devices.

Also, it would seem SLV does not have those settings exposed. We will have them exposed in our beta which will appear in the days immediately following the move to make ExtraFPS the default SL viewer

Beq Janus Good questions. As only the viewers have this issue when KVM toggling, I've not done any in-depth cause / effect.
The KVM I have supports EDID, which maintains USB/video/etc. state for each computer, between KVM toggles, so when you toggle back to a computer, it doesn't know its' monitor / USB /etc were toggled away / not available. Works quite well

Beq Janus Thanks. Good to know. I may like to experiment with that once its available, but for a different reason.

Hey Dan. Thanks for the quick response. I just download that ExtraFPS version and it exhibits the same issue.
The genesis of this is that the issue arose on the Firestorm 7.1.11.76496 release. I then tried the SL viewer to isolate out if it was Firestorm or SL viewer underneath. And the SL viewer exhibits the same behavior, thus this feedback. I've tried toggling computers with the viewer minimized and maximized, with no change in behavoir.
I'd be glad to do some alpha testing, if that's helpful.
I've used the SL viewer, the Firestorm viewer and KVM's for about 5 years without any issues.
I do use multiple virtual desktops and those have also worked fine, except for about 2 releases ago. When I would shift to another virtual desktop, and come back, the menu line was gone and the screen looked it has been slightly zoomed. I min / max'ed the viewer and all was fine. Different issue but thought I'd let you know. THis was with the virtual desktop manager Dexpot.
Here is a link to the KVM I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C7VMJX83/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hi Orion,
I've imported this to https://github.com/secondlife/viewer/issues/3198
Some questions. Do you know if this just started with the 7.1.10.10800445603 viewer or has it happened a while?
Does it still reproduce with the latest ExtraFPS RC on https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/viewer.html ? (I imagine it will)
What is the make / model of the KVM switch?
