Add Inventory Folder Archive Option

With massive inventories in the >> 80k items range, especially for older residents, there are a lot of folders that are basically stuff a resident does not use frequently. Stuff you would move to the attic in RL. This slows down searching and finding items and causes UX issues when the inventory UI slows to crawl or search is super slow.
Examples include pristine copies of items only kept as backup in case the active item breaks down. Legacy stuff that fell out of fashion, but is too good to simply delete. Tons of other things.
It would be useful to mark such folders with some "attic" or "archived" category to get them out of the way. Those items should not show up in the default inventory list, should not be found by the default search and should be treated as basically non existant unless explicitly requested. They should not be wearable or attacheable in that state.
Those attic / archived items should be de-prioritized for inventory loading. The inventory could be considered fully loaded for all important purposes even with all archived items still missing. This would speed up initial avatar loading in some cases.
The items should also not simply be display filtered but put in an entirely different structure (maybe extra tab in the UI) to have performance gains in search and browsing.
A bit like those infinite chests in games, where all the loot gets put thats not useful but still worthy of keeping.

Brilliant idea! Of course if I wasn't such a lazy old cow I'd spend time going through Inv and just deleting... and so... I come across some old outfit which I just gotta try on, and another and another. And all them 'Objects' items I was too idle to name and save in an appropriate folder; takes time to check them all out. Meh! There's more interesting things to be doing in SL.

Same with library -- not called up unless you specifically open it and stays out of search unless you search IN it, please. :)

DarkNess Bloodstone Good idea. I guess it has a tiny bit of value for new residents with nearly empty inventories to get things going. But after the initial phase it is pretty much one of those attic candidates.

absolutely brilliant idea! . ....sure I can pack things in boxes (have already done so) - but they're still there lurking in my inventory. We need this option at very least!

i would also like more subfolders available

I am begging LL not to do this please.
I have over 300K in inventory and I don’t find search to be slow at all.
I don’t have a good computer either
I have only found search to be slow in 2 particular circumstances…
1) after clearing cache
2) On extremely laggy sims
Otherwise I find it very quick
I shop a lot and often use search to see if I already have bought items so I use it a lot.
I don’t want my things stuffed into an archive that I will never remember is there! I actually keep my inventory SORTED - yep you read that right - so I can go to where I need to obtain things …I don’t want to go hunting through archives - I want my things where I PUT THEM for when I want them.
Katherine if you rez a box & put ALLLLLL that stuff in it …problem solved!

Janae Ferraris This would be optional functionality, and not mandated. If you don't want to archive, then don't enable it. For those that do, for their specific reasons, they can. I know I would leverage this, as I still have stuff from 16 years ago that I want to keep but rarely use.

Orion Greymoon Oh whew! tyvvm for letting me know that. I really appreciate it. Glad to hear it won't screw me over lol.

Janae Ferraris There may be a latency component involved. Are you in the US by chance? From Europe there is some lag, maybe due to too many roundtrips. And yes, lag sadly slows down many inventory / UI things too, as it is coupled to the mainloop.
Sorting things is nice. But since google (and even before), search is the king. Those deep folder structures and sorting are pretty outdated. I would like some AI support for inventory search actually, but that would be a different issue.
SL Feedback
Hello, and thank you for your feature request regarding adding an inventory folder archive option. This idea has been brought up by another resident in the past, and we are merging your comments to get to it faster. We understand how managing large inventories can be challenging, and this feature could indeed provide significant improvements in user experience and performance. We have set this request to tracked, but we do not have an estimate on when it might be implemented. Please keep an eye on future updates. We appreciate your input and hope you continue to share your ideas to help improve Second Life. Thank you!
