Add New Primitive Types for Building
closed
Atomic Infinity
A lot of development ongoing is bringing more ways to add content to SL using external 3D content software, but don't forget about prims! We love prims!
Compared to learning other software, building in SL native prims is a really accessible way to start making things, and I imagine many residents begin that way.
Many builders will have their 'wish list' of a new prim type - here are the first I would like to see :
Box2 - this type is a normal box with its normal cut/slice/taper aligned as they are in a standard box, but with one difference. Instead of the hollow function being aligned to the z-axis, it is instead aligned to the x-axis.
Cylinder2 - again as above - the same as a normal cylinder, but with hollow aligned to the x-axis.
Attached is a picture of just a few shapes that could be made from them.
If you have other prims that you wish for, please add them here :)

Hello, and thank you for your feature request.
Incoming suggestions are reviewed in the order they are received by a team of Lindens with diverse areas of expertise. We consider a number of factors: Is this change possible? Will it increase lag? Will it break existing content? Is it likely that the number of residents using this feature will justify the time to develop it? This wiki page further describes the reasoning we use: Feature Requests
This particular suggestion, unfortunately, cannot be tackled at this time. However, we regularly review previously deferred suggestions when circumstances change or resources become available.
We are grateful for the time you took to submit this feature request. We hope that you are not discouraged from submitting others in the future. Many excellent ideas to improve Second Life come from you, our residents. We can’t do it alone.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Second Life.

Unfortunately the update Atomic Infinity proposes would be very difficult to implememt. The z axis is special in prims since it's the one the path goes along; you can't just swap axises at will.
But there are so many other upgrades that can be made to the prim system: new profiles and paths, make the taper and shear twist curves, add some perlin noise distortion, angle based smooth/flat normals etc., etc. etc.

Merged in a post from Woolfyy Resident:
Title: Add tortured prims to the list of primitive types
Details: For example round table, flower, leave etc. as a list linked to their original prim.

A better idea, would probably just be getting to chose the axis, for all the shapes.
Personally, I'd like the ability to add shaped bevels to the edges.
