Add support for "soft return" line-feeds [SHIFT]+[RETURN] in chat and IM windows.

Second Life viewers already support rendering carriage returns (new lines) "\n" in chat and IMs. LSL scripts have, for decades, made use of the "\n" character to format text before speaking it as say, whisper, shout, instant message, owner say, region say, etc.
Copy-pasting text with included carriage returns works too, allowing text to be 'manually formatted' in an outside text editor or notecard, then copy pasted out, into chat/IM.
It's a silly extra step.
Adding support for [SHIFT]+[RETURN] would be consistent with behavior in many other applications, such as Discord.

If I'm not mistaken, Ctrl+Enter works for that, at least in IMs/group chats, no? As someone mentioned, in viewers like Firestorm it has a different funcionality though but that can be toggled off in Preferences. Either way, good request.

For years, I was having to use "ALT+20" to paste in a paragraph symbol that acted as the "soft return". This was very annoying to do. Being able to press SHIFT+ENTER to make a new line in IMs, group chats, local chats, and any other chats would make life so much easier. Please, Linden Lab, implement this feature!

Hang on, I've been using CTL+SHFT+ENTER to do this for years. I only use Firestorm, so I don't know if it works on the SL viewer.

I logged in and confirmed, it doesn't work on the SL viewer. It's just Firestorm funcionality I've taken for granted for a long time.

Worth noting that some viewers use Shift + Enter for different functionality - In Firestorm it is Whisper, which Ctrl + Enter being shout, and Alt + Enter being 'Out Of Character' - surrounds message in (( )).

Hello, and thank you for your feature request regarding adding support for 'soft return' line-feeds [SHIFT]+[RETURN] in chat and IM windows. This idea has been brought up in the past and is currently tracked. We understand how this feature could enhance the user experience by making text formatting more intuitive and consistent with other applications like Discord. While we have no estimate on when it may be implemented, please keep an eye on future updates. We appreciate your input and hope you continue to share your ideas to help improve Second Life. Thank you!
