Add World Map to Login Screen
SarahKB7 Koskinen
Add a scrollable, zoomable, clickable World Map to the Login Screen so that users can login to regions much more quickly, easily and directly, rather than by manually typing in region names and coordinates, such as "Natoma/128/128/21", or "Da Boom/1/1/60".
The usual Home Location, Last Login and manually typed login point options should remain as they do now. But including the new option of "Use World Map" would make the alternative World Map login method happen too.
When a region is manually typed in, perhaps this proposed World Map should then automatically centre the World Map's view of this this region (and coordinates) too.
A World Map on the Login Screen could also show which regions are currently online or offline, as offline regions or ones restarting usually look "browned out", while the online ones appear normal.
A World Map would also be the new users first look at Second Life's world and would show these new users that the world they're about to login to for the first time extends vastly further than a Welcome Hub or InfoHub region.
I've imagined (below) a mockup of a Login World Map, using the default LL Second Life viewer login screen.

upvoeting this saw it mentioned in the open source meeting recording i really like the idea made me think of the old browser add-on called stumble upon you'd click stumble and end up at a completely random website i wish it still existed would be cool to have a stumble button on this map feature to randomly send you somewhere would defiantly need to find a way to navigate private parcels and land tho might require the addition of some kind system that interacts with the map basically saying no go zone so it dosent tp you to private places with that tick enabled probably would be in the parcel settings id imagine

I was initially inclined to vote for this, but thought a bit longer and decided against. Reason? It would be totally daunting for a newbie, which is the last thing we need.
Also, I never knew where anything was relative to the sims I hung out at - because TP - until I started sailing and studied the world map seriously.
Maybe a modification that made this a prference would help.
