Archive/Park Region

I couldnt find anything on this already (but maybe searched poorly :-), but what about a service/feature for private region owners to "park" or "archive" their region offline for a period if they dont want all their creation work disappearing but perhaps will be away / busy RL etc for a period of time and not needing or wanting their region to be online? i.e the Park service would keep everything stored/safe but region offline for a significantly reduced monthly fee (e.g. 10%) during the parked period - Maybe a max park period of say 6 months or 12 months before you have to pay one full month again? something like that? min period 1 month.. if the region was not online then presumably its not using server processing and would just be stored on backup discs somewhere hence reduced cost to LL ? Any thoughts? thanks

LL does this with their own regions all the time, so it is definitely possible. Of course they clearly think running or keeping offline and storing any of their own regions is worth it, but they probably don't want to do that with thousands of other regions. There are LL regions running 24/7/365 that were Lindens' regions who retired years ago, dozens of SSP and other development regions that don't seem to be worked on at all, "venue demo" regions, etcetc which also take resources all the time, but that's fine. If you miss a region payment, they go after you and shut down your region eventually and they also remove Mainland regions if they don't think it's worth keeping them up anymore. Hundreds of "development" regions, abandoned event regions, etcetc that aren't useful to anyone, though. All fine!

Risky in terms of the possibility of it getting lost or corrupted at some point in the process of being stored. Small risk maybe but ya never know. Also, someone would have to be paid to run & manage this, which might effect the reduction your after. I don't know the math or probability on all of that but those are my thoughts. I could be way off.

What a great opportunity to have regions set up for special events. Examples might be an annual commemorative display, or perhaps a roleplay community wants an extended area a few times a year for large battles or ship races. A Brigadoon might come and go, or spacecraft might pay regular visits to outposts. It could be fun. :o)

I would love this idea. There are times when traveling for work eliminates my ability to be in world and having all your work not go to waste would be a wonderful benefit.

Thanks for taking the time to write up the idea of a “park/archive” option for private regions—keeping the build and terrain safely stored while taking the region offline for a while (with a much lower holding fee) is a clear use case, especially for folks who step away for RL or want to preserve work without paying full monthly tier.
We did find this request already raised in Second Life’s previous bug tracking system, and your post is a duplicate of
BUG-6344
("Allow regions to be archived for a reduced fee, and later resurrected"). Because it came from the Jira archive, we’re going to set this to Tracked
so it’s on our radar, and we’ll consolidate discussion around that existing request. We don’t have an ETA to share, but adding your details (like suggested minimum/maximum park periods and the reduced-fee concept) is helpful context for the team reviewing the tracked item.
