Bringing the "Soul" Back to SL Starter Avatars
tracked
OG Resident
The new Avatar Welcome Pack is a huge win. Seeing brands like LeLutka and Legacy to give new users a high-quality mesh head and body is a game-changer. It’s a massive upgrade that helps new residents feel like they belong right away.
That said, I think we’re missing the aesthetic diversity of the old starter avatars. The old library had a "vibe" for everyone. Whether you were into Gothic, Fantasy, Urban, Non-Human styles. It allowed people to immediately pick an identity they actually identified with.
While the new avatars look amazing, they are currently very "standard". I believe it would be much more motivating for new players if they could choose between styles that let them define who they want to be in Second Life from day one.
The tech is great; we just need to bring back that variety so players can find "themselves" the moment they log in.

I've been trying to make things (I'm a texturer, not a modeler) that work on the new Legacy Welcome Pack body, but the fact that it has no HUD is extremely limiting. (For example, the feet can only be flat; that means no high (or any kind of) heel unless you use a BoM alpha, and those don't take out the toenails.) I hope this hasn't traded lack of choice for increased frustration as new avs try clothes and shoes that don't work.

Bring back Ruth.

No. It's a dated avatar that even modernization won't fix. Let it die.
Drake1 Nightfire
NaluriMurai Lust Sarcasm just zips past you, doesn't it?
Modernizing all the older avs would be one hell of an investment in time and money, just to give new users dozens of free avatars. When has LL EVER done anything like that?

Drake1 Nightfire Great come back there, Acemaster Smartass, you get that one off Temu? Did it ever cross your mind that sarcasm doesn't fucking work all that well over TCP/IP, or did
that
zip past you?Modernizing Ruth would more likely than not break compatibility with older clothing, defeating the whole point of your argument.

1, I said nothing about modernizing Ruth.
2, You should do something about that anger issue.
3, Language.
4, I notice you didn't address my comment about LL giving away dozens of free modern avs.

Allowing other head, body, hair, clothing, etc designers to be involved would be helpful.

Many designers used to offer outfits for those that were of a certain SL age. I don’t know if it’s still going i haven’t seen any lately
Mandy Luvmore
Yes Firestorm had top designers donate. Both clothing and mesh heads. I would also, keep in mind these welcome avatars , are new out and who knows what is being planned.
Vi Paravane
Having a few shape and skin combinations and a couple of new outfits should accomplish that, I think.

I am a designer and I for one would be happy to offer an outfit for this purpose. I believe if we all used our talents we could help promote sl in a great way.

it easely could be solved by offering outfits donated by creators on the welcome hubs... as for example Firestorm i think, in a small setting already does.
