Clean Shots: Capturing Avatars Without Surrounding Scenery
Jesiris Resident
I’d like to suggest a new feature for the Second Life viewer: the ability to take snapshots where only the avatar is rendered, with no background or objects, and saved as a PNG with transparent background (alpha).
This would be incredibly useful for content creators, bloggers, photographers, and anyone who wants to produce clean and editable images of their avatars.
Benefits of this feature:
Focus on the avatar – Helps highlight outfits, poses, expressions, etc., without distractions.
Post-processing – Makes it easier to compose scenes, replace backgrounds, or use avatars in creative designs.
Professional results – Great for profile pictures, modeling, advertising, and promotional content.
Consistency – Allows the same avatar to be featured across different backdrops or themes with ease.
Currently, users have to rely on green screen workarounds or external tools. A built-in feature like this would streamline the process and enhance Second Life's photography and creative capabilities.

This sounds like the "Avatar Mask" render pass option proposed in https://feedback.secondlife.com/feature-requests/p/add-render-pass-options-to-sl-snapshots

and what are you actually asking for ?
Jesiris Resident
Bavid Dailey Ah, sorry for the confusion! I was just suggesting that when taking photos in Second Life, the viewer should hide the background and any surrounding objects, so that only the avatar is visible. Ideally, the image should be saved as a PNG with a transparent background.

Bavid Dailey Thank you for your comment, Bavid. It made me realize that I wasn’t very clear in my original suggestion. I’ve rewritten the post, and I hope it’s now easier to understand my idea.
