Lindem lab needs to work on a way to close the code and protect creators, many are losing their products to copybooth.
Creators need to be protected before any other updates!
We create and keep the sl alive, without us the sl is nothing.
But many of us are insecure and feel injured all the time, and LL does nothing even when we offer proof. I have a natural rights process that I never had a response to, it's been two years, even though it's premium plus.
We have no support and protection!
Work on ways to prevent the mesh from being copied, and exported out of the game without being the product owner.
Many buy the demo and even though it has a script not to throw it on the floor and the product only lasts 5 minutes, they still manage to steal from us.
Hair, skins, textures, mesh... everything is stolen, there is no area that we feel protected. What work does LL do to protect creators?

what about, and I say this not from an expert PoV, but a "my country is number 8 in online scam" point of view, instead of trying the impossible (preventing copybot since the asset HAS to be downloaded locally in order to be viewed), we just come up with a way to hash mesh using surface geometry and compare similar assets serverside? Isn't this way easier to identify IP violations?
Unless the copy isn't perfect, I don't know... can't just SHA256(the binary of the file) or something?

Won't happen. Would have to stop TPV program, put in DRM and anticheat which would prevent other entire platforms from even running SL, and even then there would be an individual or two that would take up the challenge just for the lulz. Tremendous sacrifices would be made, and for what? To stop someone from ripping somebody elses ripped stuff? There isn't a single virtual platform that truly protects virtual assets. SL certainly won't be the first either.
The detecting duplicate content on upload though is a good idea.. that... has potential to stop a lot of it, at least on SL, and could have other uses as well. Could sprinkle in and use some AI for that too. But I don't see them adding that to the pipeline either. Would be worthy tech to add value to their portfolio though if they did... just sayin.

The source being open is why we have community contributions. The source being open is why we have third party viewers. If you want to give those up, then so be it.
But things being closed source never stopped people from ripping assets, so you really don't gain anything from that.
If I got a demo that detached itself in 5 minutes, I, and I'm sure many others would simply not buy the item. It's disrespectful to the honest customers. Now, I don't steal content myself, but I can't speak for the aforementioned many others.

The simple answer : There is no way to do it.
The complex answer : You can try to prevent it but at the end of the day, like any other game asset your content will be downloaded by the client to simply be able to display it. At this moment, you basically kinda loose any control over it. You can even retrieve it from in-memory. It's not linden fault.
The more complex answer : Linden could introduce a way to somehow recognize previously imported mesh and prevent upload before review. However it would be a pain to put in place and without any guarantee and no gain for linden.
As a creator you should be aware of this before starting a business utilizing a game engine

You should research how copybots actually work before demanding a solution to them.

You should note that demo expiration is no protection against copybots. It has absolutely no impact on them. The only people who you are impacting with this, in a very negative way, are your potential honest customers. Those who are looking for items to combine into outfits will have a bad experience when parts suddenly start disappearing.

Nya Jules This. I will not buy a product if I can't even demo it properly. I feel disrespected as a customer when it comes to these weird limitations.
I don't condone stealing content, but I'm not surprised it happens when you can't trust the product.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter what the viewer does. It's fairly trivial to use API debuggers to grab any 3D model from any game, regardless of the method used. Same reason why DRM never has worked and never will.

If so, I support the concept to protect creators work.
