Create an Official Discovery Path for Emerging and Returning Creators

Years ago, I was a well-known Second Life creator and my business was very successful. After a period away, I returned to creating, once again investing time, work and money, and producing valid, carefully made items. Despite this, I now find myself left outside the very events that could help me reconnect with an audience.
Many important shopping events mainly accept brands that already possess strong visibility, traffic and a large following. This creates a closed cycle: creators must already be known to participate, but they need access to these events precisely in order to become known—or known again.
If this situation continues, Second Life will effectively push creators like me out. Creating involves constant expenses: meshes, textures, uploads, group memberships, a main store, advertising and event participation. I cannot continue spending money simply to remain active in Second Life without being given a realistic opportunity to reach customers and without earning anything in return.
This is not a lack of commitment or quality. It is economically unsustainable: without visibility there are no sales, and without sales creators cannot continue financing their businesses.
I propose that Linden Lab create an official “Emerging and Returning Creators” initiative including:
* Places reserved for new, smaller or returning brands;
* Selection based on quality and creativity rather than existing popularity alone;
* Free or affordable participation;
* Regular rotation of participating designers;
* Promotion through the Destination Guide and official Second Life channels;
* A central page listing events genuinely open to lesser-known creators.
I am not asking Linden Lab to interfere with privately managed events. I am asking the platform to provide an official and transparent path through which valid work can at least be seen and evaluated.
If Second Life encourages residents to build businesses and invest in its economy, it should also provide a realistic opportunity for them to emerge. Otherwise, it risks losing the very creators who want to invest, work and contribute to the platform.

Quite a lot of the various weekend sales seem very hard to get into as a new or smaller audience creator - bit of a closed shop it seems to me. Appreciate these weekend events are not LL though, but independent event companies

I have applied so many times to Shop&Hop and never been accepted and yet others who have a small business like mine are. seems unfair.

Loni Onyx I see the same vendors every Shop and Hop. A few new ones, some older ones that are just getting back into it. But there are those that are always there.

The Linden-run Shop&Hop events that take place 4 times a year are very open to small or new creators. They are free to participate in, with the only requirements being a sale price of at least 20% off, and a free gift. Many many residents visit, making it a great opportunity to get your wares out in front of potential customers.
There are also a number of charity-focused events with strong Linden Lab support which are happy to include new/small/returning creators. These will have a donation required to secure a booth, but again, you will absolutely get a chance to connect with an audience.

MitraArdwyad Resident I've applied to several Shop/Hop events and have not been selected; I don't know why not and it would be nice to know if there's something I should do differently.
I have and will continue to participate in charity events that require a donation and/or some or all sales donating a portion to the charity.
Having said that, I've always looked at everything in SL being "Up to Us" to make work. So I do everything I can to put myself out there, even maintaining a full Website that puts all my items in categories (as opposed to the scrambled world of Marketplace).
(Think of other things you might try to connect with avs out there; find ways to initiate communication and share ideas. In the end, it really is up to each of us.)

This is a great idea; it's almost impossible for a new or small brand to get established.

I agree 💯. They should invest in all of their creators, not just give free stores to premium plus members. A donated sim would be an idea. By discovering less known creators it would probably drive sales to their Marketplace sales and they definitely benefit from sales on there. More inclusion for everyone is a win/win for everyone. And a special place in the destination guide is a great idea.
