I’d like to propose the creation of a dedicated commercial continent in Second Life — a space exclusively reserved for verified real-world businesses, institutions, and professionals who wish to operate in-world and provide services to the SL community.
🔹 Key Requirements for Participation:
• Must hold a Premium Plus membership
• Must submit valid documentation proving the existence of a real business, professional license, or institution
• Land access would be granted only to verified entities intending to operate genuine, real-world services
This would function similarly to the Linden Home system, but specifically focused on authentic commercial operations. The continent would be entirely made up of real and verified services, ensuring a trusted environment for users seeking education, professional support, training, or community services.
🔹 Examples of Eligible Participants:
• Educational institutions and course providers
• Licensed psychologists, therapists, and coaches
• Legal consultants and business advisors
• Health and wellness professionals
• Non-profits or social outreach projects
• Other certified service-based businesses
🔹 Benefits for Participating Businesses:
• Lower operational costs than traditional physical offices
• Ability to reach a global, digitally native audience
• Brand positioning as innovative and future-ready
• Access to immersive environments for service delivery, meetings, workshops, etc.
• Opportunity to promote services through SL’s own channels
• Listing in an official “Verified Business Directory” within SL
• Possibility of discounts on private island purchases for verified business purposes
• Support for integration tools (e.g. scheduling, client tracking, external links)
🔹 Why This Matters for Second Life:
Bringing in real-world businesses can help grow the platform’s user base, increase engagement, and highlight SL’s power as a hub for professional, educational, and service-driven interactions.
This idea draws inspiration from past projects where respected institutions like the University of Maryland and Imperial College London used Second Life for education, healthcare training, and outreach — showing how powerful and meaningful virtual spaces can be when used beyond entertainment.
Let me know what you think! I’d love to hear feedback or refinements. I truly believe this could open new doors for the platform and its community.
Best regards,
Jesiris Resident
