Downvote option needed on this feedback site

Currently, any proposal given in this new feedback system can be upvoted by residents who agree with the proposal. In some cases however, the proposal might be biased towards the individual making the proposal, and fails to consider wider consequences of said proposal. Furthermore, it it sometimes obvious that some proposals are clearly either not workable, or would have negative impacts that outweigh any positive benefit.
For these reasons, residents should also have the option to downvote any proposal they dont like. Just using the comments alone to express disapproval does not give any visual clues as to the true popularity of a proposal.

Add the Ability to Vote "No" on Canny
Prokofy Neva
We need the ability to vote "no" on Canny proposals. If that is impossible for some arcane reason of coding/hard features set, then the Lindens could add an additional resource page using another system with a simple list of requests that can link to the Canny and enable "no" votes to be expressed.
Back when we had the JIRA, the Lindens also refused to put in a "no" vote -- even though I checked with the JIRA company itself at that time during TechCrunch and they confirmed that it could easily have a "no" vote enabled/coded. Atlassian's own JIRA database contains the old request “Can we have a 'Vote against' button?”, created in 2002. Apparently the Canny "cannot" have that feature currently but of course it, too, could be requested of Canny -- and is!
This can be seen on Canny's
own
Canny for its own
internal use, with users currently asking for precisely this feature with 109 votes currently. One user even mentions the Atlassian JIRA as having the "downvote" capacity. It is typical of many tech circles that they prefer doubleplusgood upvoting and at best downvoting (as on Reddit) instead of a clear-cut "yes" and "no" in two columns. It is important to research whether this is a built-in bias against majority rule, especially when certain tech ideas fall into the minority, as with issues around AI. We should not let Silicon Valley culture intrude on our effort in Second Life to make a Better World.
When we see "500 votes" or "750" votes on the Canny, we have the illusion that a proposal is "popular" merely because a separate column of "no" cannot get started. The best that the user can do is file a protest and argue against a proposal in the comments, which can develop a very long tail.
There are a dozen such feedback apps online with different aspects, some with up/down voting capacity such as:
What would be preferable would be a very clearcut two columns of "Yes" and "No" and not a grand total of upvote-plus-downvote as shown on Reddit and other systems.

Report Button on Feature Requests
Adamphillip Resident
I feel there should be a way to report or vote negatively on feature requests, this will allow LL to gauge the community's reaction to more divisive features or ideas, I've seen a few requests I personally hope never see the light of day on the grid as they'd be severely detrimental to my personal experience of SL.

Title: Allow us to Downvote Ideas
Details: Some suggestions seem to get a lot of upvotes, but if you allow us to downvote as well, those who disagree can show what they think too. Or, even better, let us vote "yes" or "no" instead.

Hello, and thank you for your feature request.
Incoming suggestions are reviewed in the order they are received by a team of Lindens with diverse areas of expertise. We consider a number of factors: Is this change possible? Will it increase lag? Will it break existing content? Is it likely that the number of residents using this feature will justify the time to develop it? This wiki page further describes the reasoning we use: Feature Requests
This particular suggestion, unfortunately, cannot be tackled at this time. However, we regularly review previously deferred suggestions when circumstances change or resources become available.
We are grateful for the time you took to submit this feature request. We hope that you are not discouraged from submitting others in the future. Many excellent ideas to improve Second Life come from you, our residents. We can’t do it alone.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Second Life.

I don't agree. a thumbs down is just that. I has no constructive feed back other than someone didn't like it. We have a comment section here. If you don't think something is a good idea voice your option in it and tell us why.
I've proposed a idea that I thought was good only to have someone explain to me why they thought it was a bad idea. After reading it I agreed and removed my support for the proposal.

Madi MelodiousNo, because the comment section is a way to consign documented and reasoned objections to oblivion, especially in very controversial proposals that engender a lot of debate and commenting. Two clear-cut columns with the ongoing totals of "Yes" and "No" could be created on a linked page to the Canny if it is impossible to code it within this app.

LL is using Canny service for this and Canny doesn't have downvote system at all. LL can't help ya with this.
This design choice is intended to maintain a positive and constructive feedback.
However, someone already made a post for this on their Canny site. lol https://feedback.canny.io/feature-requests/p/downvoting

Vincent Nacon Ok thanks for the info. That is disappointing though. i don't see downvoting as being negative, to me it is still positive feedback, because it gives an indication that people are engaging with the topic and that they have spent time contemplating the pros and cons. Nevertheless if the system doesn't allow for it then this request is clearly not going to go anywhere. Pity.

Vincent NaconYes, as I pointed out in my now-merged more detailed proposal, Canny itself has a feature request to have a "downvote" (I would prefer a distinct "no" vote). It's not that it is not "impossible" or that voting "needs to be positive" (it certainly isn't in real life when many cities put propositions on the back of ballots with a strict "yes" or "no" vote.
And the idea that "yes" is always "positive and constructive" does not hold, either. At times, flash mobs and web brigades can be behind some of the most controversial proposals (like "block stores on the MP"), with in fact a destructive intent. It is important to have a rational and scientific corrective that are clearly expressed on every proposal.

Eowyn SouthmoorDon't stop there. Apps can be revised and re-released -- it's done all the time. The JIRA didn't used to have downvoting -- this was added later at the request of users years ago -- the Lindens just opted not to turn on that feature. If it "can't" be done on the Canny, the Lindens can link to another page using another system that does enable recording of "no" votes in addition to Canny.
