Have a SL viewer option to derez contiguous parcels above 1000m in spite of having hideous boxes and boxes... and boxes

That way the sky of SL in crowded areas would look much more pleasant while also letting users see them when flying or building. And I didn't even talk about those who rez plank platforms in case one day maybe they could use it...

How would this work? You woudn't see anything above 1000m but, when flying, you could still run into them?

if it were implemented as a kind of +z axis draw distance as I suggested, one could fly and still see the obstructions ahead.

Title: Disable "render other parcels" above a certain height
Details: I believe we should have this by default, it would increase performance by alot for users in the viewer.
The way I see it, it should be something like disable flying above let's say 2000 meters, and above that, users shouldn't be able to see anything besides the parcel they're in. This way, when building in the sky, you'd have the opportunity to have better looking scenes, and have better performance in the same time.

Not actually commenting on the visual quality of whatever stuff is put in the skies, I could imagine this as a separate z-axis draw distance to be implemented. It would indeed help the looks of Mainland a lot.

Woolfyy Resident For those who travel mainland, be it by boat as I mostly do or by plane, helicopter and road vehicles, there could be quite an incentive of keeping separate draw distances horizontally and vertically. Just like having a cap on localpos.z+n meters. People keep a longer draw distance on the sea and in the air while travelling.
So yes, we do have draw distance as I am well aware. But having a separate drawdistance.z would both make travel more pleasing and solve your suggestion of a static hard cap on derezing stuff above certain heights.

Woolfyy Resident I don't quite see what your point is. We seemed to suggest something to the same effect, not rezzing certain stuff in ertain heights. The whole difference is that I suggest a viewer configurable and thereby 'portable', potentially more general solution of a draw cap at localpos.z + plus whatever meters. But essentially it's not too far from your suggestion.
