Hide Birthdate

In my opinion, the date i created my account is nothing i want to show at any and every occasion. it just fuels biases, like "Oh, this is a newbie" or "Oh, this is an account old as dust". Especially in Roleplay/Fantasy settings the info is of no relevance whatsoever
Hence i would like that the birthdate can still be read out via scripts but is optional to show on the profile.

Any update on this topic? I really think for the purposes of roleplaying rl age should be something we can keep discreet.

I like this idea. I've experienced ageism because of my avatar a few times. One even commented on how well I hide the wrinkles and she though that was a compliment!
I understand the concern about scripted objects having a problem with this but that's an easy fix. We have two options:
A) Make it a profile visual option to hide it with a simple date and fluff text ->"Jan 1st, 5+ years in SL"
B) We hide it all together and when a script scan a person it gives them a number of 5 years or so ago.
No script needs to know the exact age of an avatar over 5 years old anyway. Unless someone is going to start a club for avas 5 years or younger. Then that's a whole other issue.

No one should be able to track my account age as long as i do not allow it. This is private information and should not be accessible to the public by default.

FYI Account creation date is also useful for creators to check feed back on the MP store, especially when some stupid users make fake comments hidden behind alts. I got the case a few months ago, except that the user was so stupid that she forgot that she couldn't have an accurate comment having forgotten to load the needed main build, which made it even easier to ask LL support to remove the fake comment (and thank you LL support as you have been super reactive).
Anyway, as a creator, when making support it makes it quicker to see "noobs", even if some profiles are not noobs. Old users for most of them kept their old accounts, even if it is not necessarily the oldest one. Mine should be around 18 years old but my mail providers disappeared ...

In RL people go shopping without disclosing their account age and the entire world gets along withit just fine. :)

Vivienne Schell In RL you see the real customer and in a glitch you see the level of who you are talking to. And if you are a seller you have all the account history, including creation date and much more than you often even know about yourself, especially if there is also an internet site / store or fidelity cards connected to it.
As for Second Life, there are tons of ways to check users : profiles, groups membership or activity, social platforms where they often spend their time displaying pics as if they were the center of the world, prims media connection, teleport, bots, orbs etc.
On my own hud for example i scan all the avas around + distance + direct link to their profile as well as the language setting of their viewer, just to know who is around. In combat huds there is much more information. Some other security tools grab extra information.
etc etc etc

Make sharing account age optional
Extrude Ragu
Recently the desire to not share account age has been a hot topic on the SecondLife Community Forums.
I think it would be nice for residents if we had the ability to choose not to share our account age in our profiles. This could be an account setting somewhere on https://secondlife.com/my/ for example.
Most residents are happy to share all kinds of things about themselves, but are less happy when information about themselves is shared on their behalf without being given a choice.
I definitely understand why someone would want to hide their account age, and I also know why people might want to know someones account age - I still think it should be the residents choice whether or not to share this information.

EXCELLENT IDEA ! This is something that i have been asking for and should have been added years ago. Even if it is a premium member option i would switch in a second to premium. I don't need anyone knowing how many years i have been active in second life. You can pay to change your name , let me pay to hide my birthday. Just an excellent idea and i beg that linden labs adds this feature somewhere at some point.

to all those who are against hiding it: you make it sound like you personally interact in your shop or club with people, one-by-one and read their profiles. that is simply not how reality looks like. if i want to give out items only to avatars younger or older than a certain value, it is done by scripts.
I myself am not new to SL (duh) and i run stores, malls, RP areas. and most people who frequent my locations (with 10K+ traffic) i never even check their profiles. why would i want that?
However, when i roleplay with someone 1:1, then it is a different matter.
