Map Teleports Should Ignore Z Axis
Earnest Deed
World Map teleports keep the previous Z axis which means if you are on a sky platform you invariably fall thousands of meters. Suggest making Z axis = 0 which should be translated by the system to ground level. I know I should pay more attention to what the Z axis says on the World Map, but my eyesight is not what is was.
My suggested implementation would be to zero the Z axis when the World Map is opened and the old hands using the World Map to teleport to a known height can alter the Z axis maybe with a convenient accelerator key such as pressing Z while the World Map is open taking you to the Z axis box on the map.

Moving from a sky platform to a ground level location is the most dramatic instance of this problem, but there is a problem with differing heights in different regions that might make recent arrivals decide to quit such a poorly programmed virtual world. For example, I have two properties; one is Mainland at the high point of a hilly landlocked region with a Z axis of 90m, the other is a canalside Sakura in Bellisseria with a Z axis of 23m. If I explain how to find my Linden Home on the map to a new SL user they would expect that clicking on the map will teleport them to the land they have clicked on the 2 dimensional World Map. Instead they flail their arms while falling without a parachute, fall onto the lawn, and then the avatar stands up. An old hand like me (nearly 20 years in-world) knows why that happens but a new arrival may just think SL is a 20 year old programme still in beta. A change like this would have winners and losers, but mostly it is a win for the less experienced users.

You also have a problem of "what if the desired destination is a skybox". You still need to enter in the altitude, or rely on the parcel/region owner forcing a landing zone, which itself can be a problem for anybody who doesn't want to be forced to walk everywhere.
I guess a viewer could include a persistent checkbox on the world map that would auto-set altitude to 0 if checked.

Toothless Draegonne if your desired location is a skybox you would not be using a click on the World Map to go there. This feature request is about general exploration of the grid via the map.

It still has plenty of uses as is. You can either type 0 in address bar for the z axis or if you are on firestorm, maybe some other viewers type flr in local chat to teleport to ground level. If this happens to put you under where you want to be you can also maneuver your camera to where you want to be and type tp2cam or tp2 cam I forgot which exactly. Also by default the water level is at 20, so again 0 would be a bad idea.

marxman1313 Resident Maybe someone may want to teleport to the ocean floor! You can also pick the approximate location from the world map. Pick a place that isn't water, and you won't end up underwater (unless TP routing forces an underwater landing zone).

marxman1313 Resident setting Z axis to zero is already done automatically. If you own Mainland or a Linden Home your dashboard gives you the co-ordinates as X and Y co-ordinates only and adds a zero for the Z axis when you click on the link.
I normally avoid talking bout third party products, but there is (or was) a bug in the Firestorm OpenSim and SL viewer (absent in their SL only viewer) that fails to process an address without an Z axis co-ordinate and sends you to the correct region but to the fallback address of 128,128,0. And yes you often end up on the seabed if you have just acquired a Stilt or Tiki Linden Home. Normally you are sent onto ground level on land (an avatar cannot move below ground or seabed level). When clicking from the World Map you only end up on the seabed if the land has been lowered below the waterliine since the last map refresh.

Earnest Deed Either way, there are options and we have a decent amount of freedom of movement and your suggestion as far as I understand it would remove a lot of it

Always Clear the map coordinants when you reopen the map.

Unfortunately, this would not solve the problem of getting where you want to go if, say the place you're looking for had simply moved down 1,000 ft. Of course, if it went to ground locations and that was consistent, then a teleport to the platform could simply be placed at ground level. But having the map always tp to ground level is not the fix you are hoping for.
