Not charging Premium Plus for 2k texture uploads

Almost two years ago, when Premium plus was first announced, we were told that that all texture, sound and animation uploads were going to be eliminated, along with mesh uploads(which we never got). We did get the texture, sound, and animation uploads eliminated which gave content creators breathing room and helped boost innovation and creation. This was mentioned by the lindens during your meet the lindens segment for SL's 19th Birthday celebration.
While watching the April 2024 Lab gab, the news was dropped by Signal Linden that you were going to start charging premium plus members for texture uploads for the new 2k textures uploads.
Not only does it look like you guys aren't keeping your word on providing what you told the community you would(mesh uploads), but now you want to go back on your word(Free texture uploads). Even trying to use pretty words to soften the blow calling it a "bargain price". Now with PBR being added to the grid, we are looking at 4-5 textures being uploaded per mesh object if not more depending if an objects requires multiple materials. This is not including creators wanting to update any of their old content to the new resolution, who will most likely forgo updating any of their old content because it will eat into their budget now.
Conclusion: I do think you guys need to show the community good faith and do right by us by keeping to what you promised to those who paid in and supported this new premium tier. Support your creators who joined this to help boost innovation and content creation in Second life. The reason 2k Textures are being added is to help improve SL's quality. Don't stifle the creation with nickel and dime tactics, otherwise people will just stick with the 1024 and we won't ever move past this.

Using 2048 textures in SL is a horrible idea. People use 1024s on things like gems in jewelry, doorknobs, bolts, fingernails, leaves, and very small objects now and create more lag than is necessary. Textures need to be optimized.

I am curious, as I do support the decision made for Premium Plus members, which makes perfect sense, even though I do not have the Plus, only normal Premium. What I do find very concerning, and extremely ridiculous, is the overpricing on the 2k uploads for those without Premium Plus. Normal uploads at 10L, yet charging 50L for double the size ? should be 20L maximum, not 50L. If you really are trying to discourage non-Plus members to upload 2k textures, then by all means, charge the 50L and keep making things decisions that widen the financial accessibility gap. I cannot afford Premium Plus, and I know many other who do not. But i won't be uploading any 2k textures at the current overpriced amounts. Thanks.

ShibariKate Resident It is actually four times the size. 1 million pixels vs 4 million. $40L would be the correct price following that logic. Any additional cost on top of that is likely to discourage the use of such a grossly large texture in cases when a 1024 or smaller will suit the purpose.

Zeth Starlight four days and nothing, how complicated is it to change a line of code? stop everything and keep your word. I just don't cancel because I paid the annual fee...
Zeth Starlight
Monamaldita Resident It will probably be added with the next server code update along with other fixes. My guess within the next week or two at the most.

As a Premium Plus member I was surprised to garner an upload cost for a texture that was UPSCALED to 2048x2048 while the resolution was just above 1500x1500. If they are going to charge for 2048 textures, any resolution below 2048 should be automatically DOWNscaled to 1024. But either way, I got Premium Plus for the free texture uploads and this charge for higher res textures feels like a slap in the face to even the most responsible creators who know and care how to optimize their content for the most minimal graphic rendering cost to users.

I am premium plus just for the free upload. You see, it didn't bother me to pay 10ls for upload and have a free account but it does bother me to pay 10ls and for premium plus too. So i definitely will drop the premium plus and any other premium as it wont help me save somd LS :)

improving the quality of the game in any way, whether in texture improvements, graphics engine, PBR, whatever, is an obligation of LindenLab to keep the game attractive in the current times where we see games increasingly graphically beautiful, they should find a way to make this work without weighing so much, it is not our problem, and not make it cost more than what we pay, I believe that not even the Premium Plus should pay, but also that the other types of account that are necessary to pay should be the common price of 10L, and not charge more from its users for bringing a "graphical improvement", the truth is that this company is only alive through us and it shits fees and more fees on us who use time of our lives to bring cool things to do in a dead world like SecondLife. and the promise of Second Life was to pay for Premium Plus so you wouldn't have to pay for textures, animations, sound and in the future mesh, and not 1024 textures, animations, sound, etc... this was total misleading advertising for us who not only subscribed to Premium Plus but also subscribed to the annual Premium Plus which is expensive, very expensive.
I'm honestly outraged and this decision was a slap in the face. Soon it will be more viable to work with FiveM for GTA Online.
