Paid Name Change Privacy Issue

when you decide to pay for a name change.... most do it due to a problem with someone abusing them and the name changer wants to be rid of that person. The problem is when changing your name it still notifies all your friends and anyone who keeps your calling card. Why??? It should be a private thing. Why is there not a button to check off if we want to notify our friends or not. That would solve things. I want a button to not have to notify our friends and calling cards.

You need to also remember that anything you create and give to another person will have your name on it as well so even when changing, people can find you if they have something you gave them that was created by you. Name tracking is also important for getting re-deliveries if something gets lost.

Name changing is never meant as wittness protection program, but just what it is ; a name change for vanity reasons.

Alwin Alcott, you are correct, but there is a lot of difference between proactively notifying people of a name change and thoroughly hiding it from them. It anyone wants WPP level protection, the only solution is a new account, but, if someone just wants their name changed without people being notified, analogous to a RL name change, why shouldn't they get that?

Alwin Alcott It was invented so the 'Resident' folk could finally have a real familyname. But we took advantage of it to finally let all family members have our name. :-p

I have never been notified when a friend changes their name. Is that a Firestorm thing? I do understand about the calling cards. I'm not sure that can be helped though. A calling card is basically a link to someone's profile so it will always reflect that person's current account name no matter how many times it's changed.

Caelan Whimsy correct. Not updating calling cards would mean you lose your entire contact list, and they all lose you.

...why would you not want your FRIENDS to know? o.O
