Second Life Matrix Homeserver
Jerrod Diavolo
Considering the number of SL-related communities on Discord and the big DIscord exodus right now thanks to the age verification/ID-leak issue with Discord it would be nice if LL offered an alternative, e.g. by setting up a Matrix home server (e.g. tuwunel https://matrix-construct.github.io/tuwunel/ ) where SL communities wishing to move off Discord can find a new home and where SL users can communicate when not logged into SL itself. If LL could provide a Matrix Space for Second Life even communities wishing to be hosted on other home servers could be listed there, providing a central place for SL users using Matrix to find SL-related communities on Matrix.

Why would Linden Labs create something to take people off of Second Life? I would prefer if they created a more modern and up to date communications system.
The problem is that LL doesn't invest any money into the basic processes of SL and runs on very outdated systems so people seek alternatives outside of Second Life.

FWIW - I think that idea is worth serious consideration. To go full yinto this, an LL-hosted service that allowed external chat connections using LL login details (SSO) would have massive advantages:
* Mirror inworld and off world group membership so there are "no surprises" (unlike the discord bots today)
* Show external and online chatters in the participants list (no hiding offline).
* re-capture the CSR and other interactions that were lost from SL in the discord migration.
* bring a modern chat capability into the viewer (probably the hardest part of it)
