Sets of BOM layers
Nyx Onyx
I'd like to request a special type of BOM layer which in itself is a container, a set, of BOM layers laid out in a specific order for easy and reliable inclusion in outfits. Of course the ordering is still subject to the layer ordering rules, such as a skin layer being forced to the bottom.
When editing this layer, you drag and drop the layers, and then reorder them as needed.
When done, you can wear and unwear the set like any other layer, the order of the layers included in the set is kept relative to each other within the set, layers not part of the set can fall in between them when worn, due to the ordering rules.
This is perhaps a variant of the idea laid out in https://feedback.secondlife.com/feature-requests/p/ability-to-combine-group-bom-layers

Seems my idea of 'prebaking' these sets was so similar to yours that it got summarily closed, so I'll add this in:
A set of layers is still multiple items being applied, and that runs into an interesting limit bug within the inventory system - at some point you'll find that adding BOM layers puts the texture onto your avatar, but they don't show up in Inventory as "Worn" (not in the Current Outfit, not in Worn tab, not listed in bold in their Inventory folders) AND you cannot remove them because the asset server doesn't recognize them as worn. You have to remove other layers to bring yourself down below the magic number, and then these 'ghost layers' show up as Worn and can be removed.
So my solution to that (and also to simplify layer ordering) was to assemble a group of BOM layers and "prebake" them into a set, kind of like what you do in Photoshop to merge several working layers into one. That set becomes a single wearable that can be used, instead of all of the individuals.
Downsides: It does mean that you'd have to assemble the set again to change the stacking order. Also, because BOM layers are likely created by others, prebakes would have to be no-mod, no-xfer, to keep people from exporting them or trading them.

We really need this. I have several tattoo layers that need to be worn in a particular order, some of which need to be changed fairly often. Every time I change those, I spend a significant amount of time using Firestorm's replace links feature to get my tattoo layers back into the right order.

This is above my pay grade , but ... will this have any bearing on the issue with RLVa where BOM layers get applied in the "wrong" order.

JoyofRLC Acker once this bom layer container is implemented you will just need to apply this one container item via rlv
