Show Warning before a Linkset Change will Change Permissions
Bloodsong Termagant
stop me if you've heard this one before...
* you send your build to your partner to texture, they send it back all textured. you rez it on the ground to set permissions, but when you pick it up, it is NO COPY to you.
* you want to use a particle effect you created for an alt. so you log in to your alt, set it back to full perm (so you think!) and hand it over. when your main links it to a build -- oops, there was a no transfer object inside the prim. now your whole build is NO TRANSFER, and the entire linkset is corrupted and you can't change it.
PROPOSED SOLUTION:
* when hitting LINK (ctrl-L), pop up a warning if linking this new thing to your build will change the whole build's permissions TO YOU.
ie:
--linking a no copy object to your build
--throwing a no-transfer script or object into the contents
etc.
* when placing a texture on a build, warn if your texture permissions are NOT FULL PERM. because the texture perms suck. :/
* ditto when trying to throw on a material.

This should indeed have been implemented half an eon ago.
After all, we already get
some
warnings when, say, removing a non-copy item from an object's inventory to our own... or rezz it directly to the ground. But the above description is quite accurate — these are the cases where you do not
get any visual confirmation that permissions did
change!Sometimes you can get the object back with the "correct" permissions by setting it for sale (for yourself)... if you're lucky.

This is an excellent idea, I give it 5 thumbs up!

Just commenting that this could help some creators who don’t realize their creations change permissions when someone buys them.
I’ve bought many Marketplace items that change their permissions when I receive them; then I contact the creator to fix it, and neither of us knows which link, texture, or script is causing it.
