SL installing twice again
complete
Jenny Ashland
This happened to me before and I had to use the 32 bit viewer instead. Whatever was wrong was fixed on the next viewer and it installed fine. I have been away from SL for awhile and am now coming back only to discover the same problem. SL wants to install twice, and wants me to use the 32bit version. I don't understand why this keeps happening. If I remember it had something to do with the windows pro versions doing something that home didn't. It would be nice if this would stay fixed. I tried to find the thread from last year when I reported this, but could not find it to see what was done. Please fix this. I really don't want to have to keep using other viewers. I sent a screen shot so you can see.

When I try to attach it says "Invalid file (8MB max)" It is only 8kb for version log file and 78kb for sl log file. I put them all in a notecard and attached.
I don't know if it matters, but I do not have PowerShell installed on this computer. I use cmd if I have to.

Jenny Ashland: We removed the viewer's dependency on WMIC to identify hardware and now the viewer depends on powershell to identify the graphics hardware. If you don't want to install powershell, you could try installing the Release viewer, then edit the shortcut and add this to the end of the Target field
--channel noupdates
This will defeat the updater and will require you to update the viewer yourself. I'm not sure the viewer will run without powershell because I've never tried it, but, give it a shot.

Dan Linden I did that and it made it so I can use it. Without it trying to back peddle install. Here is the thing though… Firestorm works with my comp fine w/o requiring any of that. A lot of people don’t use powershell or the admin blocks it. It would be nice to see you come up with another way.

Jenny Ashland: Right, but Firestorm does not have an automatic updater, so it's a bit different. Moving this to Feature Requests.

Dan Linden That makes sense. Thank you so much! The no update thing worked and I can just manually update it. I appreciate it!

I am out of town till tomorrow. I will do this then :)

Hello again Jenny,
I found the old issue (I'm not sure if you can access it: https://github.com/secondlife/jira-archive-internal/issues/160413 ) and the problem was WMIC was missing, but we made a fix to no longer require WMIC. Let's debug this again. Please run the 7.1.10.10800445603 viewer again, and when it asks to update, you can quit. Then attach the SLVersionChecker.log and SecondLife.log files from C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\logs to a comment here.

It might be related to this thread then.
It looks like older Intel graphics dont have proper driver support from Intel for win10 and newer. I cant see from your screen shot what SL thinks is your graphics card, but even if you dont have one and just the onboard iGPU your 10th Intel processor "should" have proper support(assuming you have all your drivers and windows up to date)

Crexon Resident Thank you! The no update does work to keep it from back peddling installing, and I can log on with the new viewer. However they fixed it last year when I had this same problem, without having to add the no update! That was just a temp fix. I don't know what happened. I can't see the old jira thread.

Jenny Ashland Looking at your log it looks like you have 10th gen Intel processor and Nvidia gtx 1660ti graphics, so basically nothing about the thread I posted lol.
So its probably what Dan mentioned and have to wait for the lindens to look it over.

I went and installed the 64 bit version of Second Life Release 6.6.12.579987 (64bit) and that works and installs fine
