The Build Floater: Let it scroll
closed
Extrude Ragu
In recent CCUG meetings, I've noted that creators frequently request that various useful primitive properties and build settings are exposed on the build window.
These suggestions seem to be often met with aprehension and the reason cited is that we are out of space on the build window and a desire to avoid making the build window any bigger.
Second Life is always gaining new primitive properties and evolving, but I feel that the current build floater UI mantra is not fit for purpose when it comes to keeping up with developments to Second Life. We've coded ourselves into a corner and the build floater is no longer serving us - We are serving it.
I think it's time for the build floater to have scroll bars, with a view to exposing more useful tools and properties on the window. The question 'Is there enough space?' should not decide whether or not creators receive useful build tools.

Hello, and thank you for your feature request.
Incoming suggestions are reviewed in the order they are received by a team of Lindens with diverse areas of expertise. We consider a number of factors: Is this change possible? Will it increase lag? Will it break existing content? Is it likely that the number of residents using this feature will justify the time to develop it? This wiki page further describes the reasoning we use: Feature Requests
This particular suggestion, unfortunately, cannot be tackled at this time. However, we regularly review previously deferred suggestions when circumstances change or resources become available.
We are grateful for the time you took to submit this feature request. We hope that you are not discouraged from submitting others in the future. Many excellent ideas to improve Second Life come from you, our residents. We can’t do it alone.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Second Life.

really wouldn't like scrolling, but there's no reason they couldn't expand to more tabs.

Don't think I'd want it to scroll either… Though this is likely to be a recurring issue unless something fairly radical is done.
Seems to me the most balanced approach for now, is to increase the window size a little (like, 20% in both directions), and then take up some of that space with an extra row of tabs.
Could also offer a larger "advanced mode" version. There's quite a few ways to slice this cake, other than (
gag
) scrolling… That said, most serious building environments (Blender, Unity, etc.) have a table of named fields somewhere with numbers to tweak for All The Things™. Wouldn't object to such a tab in SL, for when you really want to get into the weeds. To get really radical, turn it entirely customisable; give it an "edit mode" that lets us change the size, and totally customise the whole thing to do what we want — maybe even add the ability to have more than one configured, could come with two out of the box; basic and advanced modes.

I can't say I'd like a scroll... but better than nothing. Honestly really, I'd go for bigger window, I'm on 4K screen already.

Vincent Nacon: Not everyone has 4K monitors, and even if they do, not everyone wants it taking up their whole screen. Though a lot could be done with a modest increase in size…
