Universal Alpha

Ya Resident
It would be nice to have an Universal Alpha which has all the options available for the universal layer options like
LEFT_LEG
LEFT_ARM
AUX1
AUX2
AUX3

I have previously suggested to extend the BOM alpha layer with sliders much like some of the clothing layers, plus anti-alpha so we can layer them in complex ways, or correct for creator-provided alphas that might be taking away too much. Tacking on more channels while extending the alpha layers would also be great.
The sliders could very well be double-sided, such that fully extended you have two handles out at each end, and as you slide in towards the middle you hide more and more from each end of the arm. A tickbox could reverse this, so that you show more and more instead of hiding, reversing the effect of any hiding layer. The effect priority would be decided by way of ordering the layers, higher layer = higher priority.

I have something like this for my Jake body; and it is useful. It has a sort of patchwork of rectangles which can be individually set or reset, as long as the categories you mention.
BUT it needs to be even more fine grained in some instances, than it already is - which would make it less easy to use.
I'm not sure what the middle way is, or if there even is one. But as suggested your solution wouldn't be satusfactory .

Bavid Dailey I was specifically suggesting an extension of the default Alpha Layer options for BoM/Bakes on Mesh. Right now, the standard Alpha only provides Head, Eyes, Hair, Upper, and Lower, while the Universal Layer already supports more fields.
If those same fields were also available in the Alpha Layer, creators (or users) could make them invisible via a simple transparent texture when needed — but wouldn’t be required to.
As for the body-specific cuts you mentioned (like on your Jake body): those are a separate system and, as far as I know, shouldn’t interfere with this request at all

Hello, and thank you for your feature request regarding the Universal Alpha Layer. This idea was actually brought up by another resident in the past, and we are merging your comments to get to it faster. We understand the importance of having more flexible alpha layers, especially for managing asymmetry and improving the functionality of BOM bodies. While we don't have an estimate on when this might be implemented, please keep an eye on future updates. We appreciate your input and hope you continue to share your ideas to help improve Second Life. Thank you!
