Update Default Camera Angle
tracked

The default camera angle has been the same since I started SL 15 years ago. This has impacted how building size and any relative objects have been built. As avatars in general, are not as tall as they used to be, it would be helpful if the default camera angle were lowered. It's almost impossible to see correctly inside a building built to actual scale if one uses the default setting.
This is my camera angle. I can walk into almost any recently built smaller scaled home and see perfectly. It's also a more realistic angle.

It would be great if you could post your camera angle settings so others could use them.

Spidey Linden. Any movement on this yet? Would this be a difficult thing to implement?
Amata Karas
Yes please. This would be a simple, appreciated change.

Within months of joining SL I started to use a camera angle recommended at the time on Penny Patton's website. It is much lower than the default LL camera view and not angled downwards much, so the end result is quite similar to what Rowan posted above. With an improved camera view like this, SL looks far better, and it's also easier to navigate through houses etc. Many people in SL have stuck to the default LL viewer camera angle and I firmly believe that this had lead to the oversized buildings with very high ceilings that SL has been plagued with.

Woolfyy Resident speaking as someone who made and sold thousands of home prefabs in the old times, the ceiling height minimum constraint I worked with (4.5m!) absolutely was a result of the default high camera position . Better tools to adjust it or offer alternative defaults would be most welcome.

Woolfyy Resident That is almost 15 feet! That is twice what standard ceiling height in the real world is.
My house in SL is a small Cape.. it has 3 meter high doors.. 10 foot tall doors!?!? On a Cape? The ceiling is 5 meters tall.
My bed, which is not enormous by SL standards is 4mX3mx1m.. 15X10X3 feet... Thats the size off most rooms in a real world apartment.
The scale in SL is just wrong.. With a 1.8m tall av, I look ridiculous on the bed. And the crazy part is the animations are set for 1.8 M tall avs.. Why does the bed/couch/table need to be so huge? Because of the camera position..
As many have said before, if you have the correct camera vies, you can scale down everything and have more space on your land for more things.

Woolfyy Resident Let me see if I have this straight.. Your solution to over sized furniture and builds is to make my av smaller... How exactly will that make the builds smaller?
