Use Mesh object as custom refelction probe object

How about allowing us to use mesh as reflection probes? Sometimes a cube and sphere don't work for us and by using a mesh we create we can use that as our refection probe for stuff like odd shaped houses etc

This would make life a lot easier.
More importantly, though, I would like to see an option for probes that don't impact lighting. As it is, trying to combine overlapping probes to deal with spaces that are not just a simple box is next to impossible without running into lighting issues on surfaces shared by the probes.

The cube and sphere are mesh, pretty certain that you do not understand how they work. Reflection probes only work on one axis, spheres can be over-lapped, cubes are more complex.

This isnt needed since the math beyond cubes and spheres gets exponentially complex and cause mass frame rate loss and if you get too many faces mass vram/ram usage.
As a 3d content creator you can look to the vast 3d content industry to see the norm is using spheres and boxes.

Crexon Resident this isn't really correct. The mesh object acts as an occluder/limiter for the probe, but the probe capture process itself would be exactly the same, a cube map. So, while it would be a bit more complex in performance, you don't necessarily increase vram usage nor would you get massive framerate drops. Unreal (and Unity I believe) are capable of using different methods to actually circumvent those issues for quite long time already.

Kuuko Shan Do you have any source for this?
If you are referring to cull_mask that is used to defined what object is affected by a probe. Which is outside of the scope of this request from the OP.

Hello, and thank you for your feature request regarding using mesh objects as custom reflection probes. This idea was previously brought up by another resident, and we are merging your comments to help expedite the review process. We understand the importance of having more flexible reflection probes, especially for complex architectural designs like vaulted ceilings and curved walls. While we don't have an estimate on when this might be implemented, please keep an eye on future updates. We appreciate your input and hope you continue to share your ideas to help improve Second Life. Thank you!
