Will- & Testament

Personally I have experience of some Social Media platforms, and also some geneaology sites that offer the ability to indicate on one's profile or settings what should happen with one's 'account' when one has passed away or is otherwise unable to use one's account anymore. Could we perhaps add a feature like this to our SL account(s)?
This could work in a number of ways of course, but the way it currently works with one having to do it through RL legal documents, such as a Will, is asking a bit much I think. Alright, it could be remain the default that it has to be done the way it's laid out on the Wiki today. But couldn't we be allowed to untick that on the profile and set an alternative policy?
This could include the ability to choose specific friends that could turn in a support ticket each that verify that the holder of said account has passed away, and that the policy opted for in the settings should be enacted.
There should then be an option for "All These" or "At least X number of these friends", or "At least X number of these friends whom has been active in SL the last N months".
There could be some default policies to choose from, plus some way to add one's own text, a mini "Will and Testament" if you like that could be enacted on, on the principle of Best Effort and at the discretion by the Lab.
These are just some ideas, but I think this would be important for a lot of people.

I have this thought countless times. If i pass away what's gonna happen with my entire digital presence, which is now greater than my real presence even.
Especially in Second Life.

Gmail accounts have this, if they are not logged into for more than six months or something like that they will contact the contact you give them for instructions on what to do with the account. For business accounts being able to have a type of support ticket with the details of what needs to happen to my SL account(s) would be useful.
For instance, giving a business partner's SL account name or a spouse's email contact info and or setting out what one wants to happen just makes sense.

I feel sorry for whoever inherits my inventory. "And to my nephew.. I leave behind my collection of rubber groaning chickens..."
It's a neat idea, can't vote against it for sure, and in some cases will be useful.
But.. idk, I feel like for those who just wanna share their stuff and adventures.. if you wanna leave behind a legacy in SL.. you should just treat your feed as a journal with tons of content and pics of moments, and also make a bunch of FP items and share them with everyone.

I saw this article which I think is related to this topic: https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20241024-the-remarkable-story-of-the-boy-who-lived-a-secret-life-in-world-of-warcraft

You just spoke my mind, Nyx. I have had the idea for years, because I thought avatars are like characters in a movie or a book - they are ageless/timeless. And avatars do not have to die even when their operators have (in RL). So far now I have a very trusted someone who knows all about SL and my avatar, and my life in SL. I gave this person my SL username and password, in case 'whatever' happens to me.

I wouldn't be against this, but it seems if you have a will or trust the heirs would inherit. Just make sure that they know about your investments in Second life.

I think this is an excellent idea! So many have already passed away with their accounts in Limbo. It would make me feel so much more secure about my SL.

YES! An outstanding suggestion. I have already spent £120 in lawyers fees just discussing the wording of a codicil to my will, and there will be more to come. Linden Labs' staff have been very helpful (if a little tardy) in responding to my queries, so the innovation being proposed would be very helpful. Apart from anything else, it'll free up the Linden staff's time since they won't have to handle such queries..which are likely to increase as the ageing (?!) population of SL grows.

I think that is a great idea, I have invested a ton of money in SL and have some beautiful homes and properties and I would love for some of my best friends I have made because of being in SL to have my things if they want them. It would be like a part of me is still alive in SL and that would be awesome. I love all that SL has to offer, the adventures I have had learning to fly, sail, ride a motorcycle, drive the Linden roads, explore and discovering all the continents that SL has. I have shared so much of that with my friends, most had no idea there even were continents in SL, or how to do so many of the things I just mentioned above. SL really is a wonderful extension of my real life that I enjoy immensely as I do my real life. All of my landscaping and clothing would be continued being used and enjoyed as much as I have enjoyed them. Blueridge Azalee

This goes not just for SL but your entire "Digital Legacy." Madori Linden gave an excellent presentation recently, I think it was to the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium. Perhaps that information could be summarized and available on the Website somewhere. (And, seriously, talk to a lawyer about something attached to your Will. It's SL, Google, Yahoo, Amazon, bank accounts... think "anywhere I have a login.")
