Connecting Linden Lab with 3,000+ Entertainment Professionals Through ShowBuzz.org
Gabryel Nyoki
ShowBuzz.org is a non-profit platform created to support Second Life's live entertainment ecosystem.
In under seven months, ShowBuzz.org has connected more than 3,000 entertainment professionals, grown to 2,148+ Discord members, generated 288,977 website visits, and distributed 3,655 professional HUDs to artists, DJs, venue owners, hosts, and event organizers across Second Life.
The entertainment community is one of the most active social ecosystems in Second Life, driving repeat logins, community engagement, destination discovery, and live events every day.
We would love to explore stronger communication between Linden Lab and the entertainment community through initiatives such as:
• Quarterly Linden Q&A sessions
• An entertainment community liaison
• Official announcement sharing
• Entertainment roundtable discussions
Attached is a visual overview of the ShowBuzz.org ecosystem, community reach, and adoption metrics.
This proposal is not about promoting a product. It is about creating a stronger connection between Linden Lab and one of the largest organized entertainment communities in Second Life.

I've used the host showbuzz hud since the beginning and wouldn't be without it. Being able to see who the live DJ and host is was a big improvement. Its allowed me to see where all the live DJs are in my timezone and I've found a lot of clubs I never knew existed. Its a first class tool.

I use it every show. Highly recommended I've also told all my venues I perform at about it and am happy they got it too 😁

As the owner of Romantica Park, Romantica for short I have used Showbuzz from the very initial start using the 4Clubs hud that is rezzed at the venue, also my calendar shows up on upcoming events which is live. So much easier to alter the calendar within 30 mins of a performance change and its live immediately on all huds and the website. Unfortunately the LL Events does not allow this and is restricted to a 2 hour rule which hinders a venue for advertising, about time LL updated to present day demands and not living in archaic past.

I used it for my shows and is a very useful tool have received visits to my shows directly from there :)

I use it, my daughter who also performs in SL uses it. We both have seen by the message it gives in the local chat window that people TP in through Showbuzz. Besides increasing a performer's or venue's visibility, it's a unique way to see who is performing, and the extra information is cool; what's going on at venues, how many people there, how much time left, and easy to TP there. I'm not crazy about the "Likes" thing because I don't like making a competition out of it, but it's not a big deal. Overall, I like Showbuzz.

To be completely honest, it doesn't help my DJs or my club at all. It’s just like with all other systems: if you already have a large community (group) and don’t really need ShowBuzz, then you’ll get a lot of clicks on ShowBuzz and end up right at the top. If your community is still small—or practically nonexistent because it’s new—then you’ll usually end up at the very bottom, where no one scrolls down to, and the big clubs are—as always—right at the top.
So as much as ShowBuzz boasts about this, it’s just a standard statistic that says nothing about actual success.
ShowBuzz doesn’t bring me or other new or small clubs any more visitors. So everything stays the same.
There are also far too few music genres available to choose from.

I agree to an extent, the issue is some of these clubs have so many bots not matter what happens until there is a way for handling bots this will always be an issue. This too is one of my concerns but it would be with any system people know work around and they find it and exploit it

SaskiaWood Resident Thank you for sharing your perspective. I genuinely appreciate the feedback.
One thing I'd like to clarify is that ShowBuzz was never designed to guarantee traffic or promote one venue over another. Its purpose is to provide residents with a fair, real-time view of what is happening across Second Life using objective event data. Ultimately, where people choose to go is up to them.
ShowBuzz does not sell placement, prioritize specific venues, or artificially boost clubs. Large venues may appear prominently simply because they have active events and larger audiences at a given moment, but the same system is applied equally to everyone.
I also understand your concern about smaller and newer venues. Discovery is something we're constantly thinking about, and feedback like yours helps us improve.
Regarding genres, there is actually no restriction to a fixed list. All ShowBuzz HUDs include a custom genre option, allowing venues and performers to create and use their own genres if they don't find an existing category that fits.
Whether someone loves ShowBuzz, dislikes it, or falls somewhere in between, I value the conversation. My goal has always been to support the broader entertainment community and continue improving the platform based on community feedback.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
I’d like to clarify that we were well aware that ShowBuzz isn’t one of those so-called traffic generators that are found in droves on SL. And there’s no doubt in our minds that none of the top spots are sold.
But if you take a look at the standard sorting and see which events and clubs are further down the list, you’ll notice that they aren’t the ones that are already very well-known.
Of course, the residents decide where they go. But it’s also well known that, statistically speaking, website visitors’ attention wanes after 4.5 seconds. So they rarely scroll more than once or twice. That’s what makes ShowBuzz attractive and great only for the clubs that are already very well-known. Everyone else can save themselves the trouble with ShowBuzz. :)
That’s just the truth.
There is an alternative: random order as the default.
Addendum: I just checked out [ DigiTool ] ShowBuzz 4Clubs v1.12 (rez). Yes, it includes a config-NC file, but no, you can't enter any other genres in it :)

As a host at the Wet Spot I find the new hud every easy to use when host multi. DJ. The new update on the website is great too when being able to sort via likes.

ShowBuzz is very easy to use. I am a Dj at Wet Spot Beach Club and have noticed an uptick at some of my sets. Personally, I like to visit the site to find different things, especially Live Performers, ShowBuzz makes it so much easier to find what IS happening vs other platforms out there that are currently in place in SL. It is very easy to use and is an amazing tool to find a new place to go, or listen to someone new! Its an even better platform for performers, clubs and DJ's that may not have gotten much exposure before.

ive owned wet spot beach club for 11 years and showbuzz has made a big difference. it would be nice if LL could support the music industry in sl like they do with creators, clubs employ the most people in sl still

I use showbuzz for every set I host, and find it a very effective tool in reaching potential audiences
