Do Not Disable Jeogeot Gulf's Rez Rights.

The Jeogeot Gulf currently has rez rights enabled under Linden Lab’s permissions, allowing combat activities to be hosted in the region. While this is most commonly done under the VICE system, it is by no means the only system in use.
Due to creative differences, much of Astral Tek’s staff is disbanding, and its owner is now in discussions with Linden Lab to have these rez rights disabled.
This is a significant concern for several reasons, including but not limited to the following:
1) A substantial amount of content has been created specifically to function in large, rez-enabled spaces. Disabling rez rights would render much of this work partially (if not entirely) unusable. Examples include warships, aircraft with more realistic physics, and other large-scale interactive builds.
2) The Jeogeot Gulf has years of history behind it and supports a dedicated community that actively engages in content creation and collaborative activities. Much of this work is driven not by profit, but by passion and long-term community investment.
3) Removing rez rights would set a concerning precedent for combat and experimental content on the mainland. The Gulf has long served as a space for creators to build, test, and refine systems, often contributing many unpaid hours to produce tools and experiences that benefit the wider community.
On behalf of the content creators who rely on this space, we respectfully urge Linden Lab to carefully consider the broader community impact, the historical significance of the Jeogeot Gulf, and the good-faith creative efforts built around these permissions before making any irreversible changes.

That area should remain untouched. It has been a big part of the flying and boating community and I for one would hate to see it go.

Hello all! This discussion may be better served on our Forums. feedback.secondlife.com is primarily for technical issues, whether they are bugs or feature requests.
We would also like to add a reminder that the mainland is for all Second Life Residents to use, as long as this usage does not violate the Terms of Service and Community Standards. If you believe that a violation is occurring, please file an abuse report with any details about the issue you have found.
We do not currently have any plans for changes to this long-established area of the mainland.
Thank you for your passion for Second Life and all it has to offer!

Hopefully we'll still have Rez after the dust settles.
Who's still working on combat systems out there? Hit me up.

Originally the Gulf was no-rez like Blake Sea and any other protected land parcel in anywhere else on Mainland. Then it was changed, upon the request of Tulagi community. That community is going away, therefor the Gulf turns back to what it was before. Besides that far too often, i only just get griefed in the Gulf and it's offputting. It'd be nice if it returned back to normal like Blake Sea, with rez areas upkept.
We do need a seperate controlled area away from normal mainland traffic that is fully Combat2 enabled, provides a mix of land and sea areas with islands, and allows combat. Like a Combat Continent.
Trouser Monster
IceCold Skytower While Combat 2.0 is great and I use it daily in my own community of sims, combat continents have ALWAYS turned into disasters even when privately managed. You can already go to the Rausch sims or barely-used Concord/Lexington continent and get insta-murdered by someone with a HUD, and unless LL steps in and defines what "acceptable combat" is (which is a terrible idea in its own right) it won't be any different.
Ironically, the same framework behind LL defining "acceptable combat" being a terrible idea is also the issue at the heart of what's going on with the Gulf project. An attempt is being made to shut it down because one person, who happens to own a store, doesn't like how he sees other people playing the game. While I agree with Warship/Joe that mesh rippers with no sense of balancing are cancerous, his approach of trying to outgrief them and constantly feeding into drama cycles with them instead of putting out more content is far more damaging to his business and proposed model of play than the existence of turbosquid mills. It'd be like if I started nuking my own LLCS/Combat2 community because the Wishmaster HUD exists.

Dear Linden Lab Team,
I would like to respectfully express my concern regarding the possible removal of rez rights in the Gulf. Such a change would represent a significant setback for important PvP and combat-related aspects of Second Life.
While sandboxes and smaller sim clusters exist, they cannot replace the Gulf. Larger ships and complex vehicles require open space to be used meaningfully. Without such an environment, these products lose their purpose, which would make them far less attractive to both existing and future customers.
Over the years, the Gulf has developed into a large, active, and creative community. Many users have invested in ships, aircraft, and combat systems specifically to participate there. The Gulf is not only a PvP area, but also a social hub and a place where long-standing communities have formed.
As with any large community, there are occasional cases of misuse. However, removing rez rights for everyone would disproportionately affect legitimate users. A more effective solution would be improved oversight or moderation, ideally in cooperation with Linden Lab, rather than eliminating core functionality.
The Gulf is also economically relevant to Second Life. Combat systems and related content are actively purchased and used there, generating ongoing revenue. If rez rights are removed, these products lose practical value, which may negatively impact creators and Linden Lab alike.
Additionally, both naval and aerial combat depend on open space. In smaller sim layouts, realistic flight and large-scale engagements are not feasible. The Gulf allows for tactical, asymmetrical gameplay that encourages situational awareness and creative thinking—qualities that contribute to Second Life’s uniqueness.
For many users, the Gulf would no longer be what it has been for years if rez rights were removed. I respectfully ask Linden Lab to consider preserving rez rights in the Gulf and to explore alternatives that address misuse without dismantling an established and valuable community.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Kind regards,
Sayuri Kiyori

I want to clearly state one thing, because I feel it is important to avoid misunderstandings:
I am absolutely against ripmesh.
Ripmesh usually consists of models extracted from games and uploaded elsewhere, and it is highly questionable whether the people using or selling these meshes actually hold the proper licenses or permissions to do so. At best, this exists in a serious legal grey area and in many cases, it crosses well beyond that line.
For that reason, I do not recommend purchasing ripmesh products. I can fully understand Warship’s anger and frustration here, as it is deeply unfair when people profit from work they did not create, without investing the time, skill, and effort required to build something properly.
This issue is genuinely concerning. However, determining legality ultimately requires verification with the original game developers or rights holders. If there is uncertainty, contacting the support teams of the respective games would be the correct path to ensure that fraud or copyright violations are not involved.
This is my personal position, stated with the greatest respect, and not intended as an accusation toward anyone here.

I may not have contributed as much to building this project as others who've weighed in here, but I have been with it from the beginning, and watched it grow from a controversial experiment relentlessly griefed by multiple groups, to a known and respected fixture in the Second Life landscape. I'm proud of the role I had in it, and of everything it's become, despite its flaws.
I agree with Warship that ripped mesh is a problem, one that threatens all content creators in Second Life, and even legally threatens Second Life and Linden Labs as a whole, and the response to it has been anemic at best. More needs to be done, urgently, to prevent severe and irreversible damage to the community and the platform of Second Life. However, it is an issue that involves ALL of Second Life, and destruction of the Gulf Project will not fix it, if anything it will remove one of the last bastions of resistance that still remain.
I also agree with Mal, that the Gulf Project should always be a collaborative effort, not beholden to, or at the mercy of, one person. However, in suggesting Warship's request be honored and the project be shut down, he is proposing just the opposite of this, that one person be allowed to unilaterally decree the destruction of everything that all of us have worked to maintain.
There is a large and living community here, one willing to make this work, and to work toward that goal. Too much has been asked of Warship, and while he put himself in the position to rise to the top, and thereby saddle that burden, we were also quite happy to step back and leave him with it. We're all to blame, and now it's up to us to step up, help take some of the load, and get things working again.

you said it better than i could honestly. i would love nothing more than to continue however i refuse to do it with vice. for the sake of my mental and physical health.
Nobody ever seems to understand how much was put on me and how it actually feels to be in my shoes. how demoralizing it actually is to see models being uploaded from games i enjoy being weaponized to destroy other games i enjoy.
The lack of care being put into content for the sake of pushing it out the door as fast as possible as if life depended on it. the actual balls to consider it high quality and comparable to my content that can take months to years to get done.
It has become more about mindless consumerism than actual art. but now this new standard of selling a warthunder models with prims glued on like a kids macaroni painting. its pathetic.
Its THEFT and no amount of tacking prims on makes it yours.
if anything its the legal system that has failed to protect people like me that have invested years into community building for the sake of community growth and providing fun and enjoyable games to play.
it was never about the money to me. i would have done this for free if land cost nothing. they cant say the same.

Warship Waifu I agree with you, the amount of stolen models uploaded and sold in SL is overwhelming and it is everywhere now. Even if they gave them away for free (some do) it devastates real SL content creators since we can put all the time and effort into high quality, optimized products, which nobody will buy if they can get cheap or free trash - but in my experience, they don't even buy cheap, high quality products if they can buy expensive trash instead. It's weird because it is extremely easy to spot poor quality in SL, but many people don't care about it if the advertisement got their attention.
The sad thing, however, is ending the open rez policy in the Gulf wouldn't change this situation. It would certainly reduce the amount of lost missiles and other things stuck everywhere around, but as far as greedy people with stolen mesh models go, they will keep going if LL won't stop them.

This is a very mean spirited request and should not be allowed ! why should 1 disillusioned person ruin a tradition and fun for thousands

The Jeogut Gulf has a lot of history to me, fighting there in naval battles was oen of my first experiences when I really got into SL. Massive naval battles like this isn't something I see anywhere else and losing that would be a travesty, both for me and for anyone who never had the chance to experience it.
Please keep rez enabled

All i know is, I paid good money for giants boats that its only purpose is to sail in the Gulf and have fun. I want to keep doing it and have fun.
I dont see why someone stealling stuff on SL (something that has always been around and requieres no rezz at all) should affect people that had expepended good coin on projects that require this area to work.
It is unfair that a couple rotten players ruin the fun for everyone. punish them not the whole rest of SL cause they will keep stealing whatever they want no matter what.
(i didnt even knew all this was for a drama like this, it makes me sad to see AT go, and even more to see gulf turning in to more generic no rezz water)

Turning off REZ will NOT stop people from ripping and selling garbage. Nothing will, it will continue and continue because of the human condition. Boycott rips with your wallet and awareness. Turning off REZ will also cuck all the land holders who bought land in the area for this lovely privilege to be next to a liquid sandbox of fun. The Gulf has a vast community that relies on it tremendously for their work and play, disabling it would be a disservice to all, even to the lot of us who don't use it that much, as it is a fun and interesting place to traverse and explore. Appreciated all A-T has done and created, the public meltdown and killing off everything that was created is such a histrionic waste. Take time to cool off and figure it out, lil bruises. GG to all. long live the Gulf.
