While it's great that LL has updated the mainland covenant to explain that Linden Labs ultimately owns the land our parcels are on, the lack of end user support for this live service that is paid for by the residents on a monthly/annual basis continues to feed into the wild west mindset.
Linden labs should take a more active role in mediation of mainland neighbourly disputes instead of it's current policy which continues to feed into the false information that, you as a resident OWNS your plot of land and are therefore free to make your parcels a nightmare for your other neighbours and lower their property value to prevent scenes like these.
For context, whats happening in the screenshot is the owner of the small sliver of land is using their parcel to box in the bigger parcel which houses a GTFO hub by inconveniencing the access of that parcel, unless their demands are met. That sounds a lot like griefing to me.
Mainland doesn't need many rules, it just needs one. The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. As examplify in the "Good Neighbour Commandments"
  • Thou shalt not block roads or sea lanes with thy objects, nor shall ye set ban lines, for they are the suck.
  • Thou shalt allow build and run scripts on thy land and use autoreturn to keep it tidy, for it is thy friend
  • Thou shalt beget privacy walls, screens, and shrubbery around thy land which please the eye of thy neighbor as they do thyself
  • Thou shalt not set thy security orb to teleport people without at least a one minute warning, lest thou beest a suck.
Things like these are just basic human decency and courtesy, and if people lack these and cause grievances unto others, and lowering of property value then these basic etiquette should be codified into the terms and service to prevent such grievances for a harmonious environment.
