Objects can spam your email with offline messages even after being blocked.

I was part of some RP sim a while ago and left but was still getting notifications from them. So I blocked the object. Only to realize months later it was still sending me emails and possibly affecting my offline message cap. I am not entirely sure, but maybe someone can take a quick look?

Blocked objects still send offline IMs

1: Rez a prim
2: Put a script in the prim that uses llInstantMessage() to send messages to you in a timer event, set llSetTimerEvent() to a desired interval for testing.
3: Duplicate the prim that contains the script.
4: Name the first prim Not Blocked and the second Blocked.
5: Block the second prim.
6: Make sure "Receive offline IMs as email" is enabled in your account settings.
7: Log out
8: You will receive the offline IMs to email from both objects, even though one of them is blocked.
This was reported earlier this month, Maestro Linden confirmed its presence, then a few days later the issue was marked as Complete anonymously. The subsequent RC simulator version updates did not fix this, the bug is still present on the latest RC versions.

I'm not sure how this got marked "complete", but I'm setting it back to "tracked"

Mercury Linden Oops. Thank you, I've just filed a new one right before you replied. Better have two of it open than none, I guess.

Maestro Linden Just tested this again on the newest LeTigre version (2026-09-22) and this issue is still present. Why was this ticket marked as complete?

Maestro Linden For some reason this issue got marked as complete 5 days ago. Every region I've seen still runs 2026-08-03.30838755483, the main channel didn't get a new version today and RC Magnum didn't get the 2026-09-14.34880154149 version last Wednesday that is featured in the release notes since last week.
Just tested again and as expected, blocked objects can still send offline IMs to email.

I can reproduce this issue with server 2026-08-03.30838755483:
- Visit https://accounts.secondlife.com/change_email/ and ensure that "I would like to receive offline IMs via Email" is enabled
- Rez 2 objects, each containing the script shown below. The objects are named "llInstantMessage after delay - not blocked" and "llInstantMessage after delay - blocked"
default
{
touch_start(integer total_number)
{
float delay = 60;
string msg = "Sending instant message to " + (string)llGetOwner() + " "
+ (string)delay + " seconds after " + llGetTimestamp();
llInstantMessage(llGetOwner(), msg);
llSetText(msg, <1,1,1>, 1);
llSleep(delay);
llInstantMessage(llGetOwner(), "Test message sent at " + llGetTimestamp());
}
}
- Right click on "llInstantMessage after delay - blocked" and select "Manage -> Block" from the context menu
- Touch both objects, and confirm that initial IM from the script only comes from the "not blocked" object.
- Immediately log out
- After a few minutes, check your email
Expected results:
Ideally, the server would check the block list and not deliver the IM from the blocked object to the offline IM/email queeue. The user should only get the IM from the "not blocked" object as an offline IM email.
Actual results:
In (6), the user gets 2 offline IM emails, one from each object.
I suspect that this is a longstanding issue, that blocking has never impacted offline IMs from objects, but am having trouble finding previous bug reports about it.

Maestro Linden I've just reproduced this as well. I don't think it's an old issue, in the past I had many objects blocked that were supposed to send IMs regularly and I've never had this issue. I rarely block anything or anyone now, so I wouldn't notice this issue now, and it might have been a thing in some previous simulator versions, but definitely not for several years.

AlettaMondragon Resident: Okay, thanks for the feedback. This is the sort of bug that would be complained about loudly and frequently, so the lack of recent duplicate reports also suggests indicates this is a recent regression.
