Hi JacksLiver Resident, I believe the initial avatar selector dialog would appear if the viewer somehow failed to fetch your initial appearance. I'm having trouble reproducing this on my end; I logged into 'Munch' a few times (using the same viewer build) and my avatar is consistently loading.

If this issue is still occurring for you, we need your viewer's SecondLife logs in order to investigate further. Please reproduce the issue, log out, and then zip up your viewer logs folder. This page tells you where to find the logs folder: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-report-a-bug/ta-p/733545#Section_.3

Next, log into https://support.secondlife.com/ and click the "Submit a Support Case" in the right column, then choose Issue Type: “…” and type “logs for canny issue” and add the link to this canny issue. Click the “Attach a file” link at the bottom and attach the zip file.

Leave a comment on this canny issue once that's done so we can take a look at the logs.
