Plebeja Frequently DIsappearing / Un-Enterable
tracked
TatSledge Resident
For at least two weeks the Plebeja sim in Heterocera has been largely un-enterable from at least two adjacent sims (Carmine and Astylus), with attempts to do so more often than not resulting in disconnects followed by five to ten minutes of erratic viewer behavior, sometimes with multiple copies of one's avatar present. This affects users on at least four viewers, from at least three countries, on multiple different ISPs. Plebeja is frequently observed by users as flickering in and out of existence for 15-75 seconds at a time, even when standing, e.g. 10m from the edge and with draw distance set to 100-128M. The Radegast viewer, when in Carmine or Astylus, frequently notes a lack of caps for the server in Plebeja's direction (east/south, as appropriate).

TatSledge Resident As of this morning (August 5), the fix is now deployed grid-wide, with the exception of the test regions on the 'Luau' channel. Please let us know if you're still seeing this issue.
TatSledge Resident
Maestro Linden While the new changes don't seem to have fixed
all
crossing-related issues, they do seem to have solved Plebeja's existential crisis. Thanks for the assistance.Maestro Linden
TatSledge Resident: Thanks for confirming. That's basically what we hoped for - that the recent spat of frequent region crossing failures is no longer happening.

I have also seen this issue with Plebeja, and with Carmine, sometimes occuring at random, the regions disappear while i am in a nearby region, then appear back, repeatedly and rapidly. Entering the region breaks connection to Second Life, and requires a relog, upon which all attachments disappear on login.
Sometimes, it seems to happen to me at different times from others, and some other times it happens simultanously along with others.
This issue is difficult to formally document, or reproduce, however something is definetly not working right.

Hi TatSledge Resident, are you currently seeing this issue? If so, can you share the timestamp of an example crossing failure and the name of the region you were coming from?
I am not currently seeing this issue with Plebeja, though similar symptoms are occurring on some other regions (see
https://secondlife.canny.io/server-bugs/p/log-in-at-last-location-or-home-fails-location-not-available-but-sim-is-up ). I suspect that Plebeja's restart yesterday may have cleared up the issue, for now.
TatSledge Resident
Maestro Linden It was still occurring as of approximately 07:30 SLT today, August 3rd. I have not had a chance to check since the unannounced 0800 grid-wide restarts.
TatSledge Resident
Maestro Linden At 06:29:14 SLT today (Tuesday 4 August) I attempted to enter Plebeja from Astylus after it had disappeared from view (which it is very much still doing). My head and body derendered and I was stuck walking in place in Plebeja, unresponsive to movement or other input until 06:32:28 when
Astylus
(and Carmine to the north) disappeared. While DMs appeared to send correctly recipients could not see them, and communicating in local chat failed entirely. At 06:37:35 I attempted to teleport locally within Plebeja by double-clicking a location in the minimap; while the viewer (FS) played the teleport sound, I did not move but remained walking in place. At 06:39:20 I brought up the world map and noted that no sim names were displayed. At 06:40:10 I said bugrit and logged out. When I logged back in at 06:41:11 I was where I'd logged out the night before. tl;dr: restarts did not clear up this issue.Maestro Linden
TatSledge Resident: Which account was this with? I see your TatSledge Resident account hasn't been in that region (or SL at all) today. (Edit: Never mind, I figured out which agent it was)

I looked at this case, and it appears that I that case your viewer wasn't keeping up with the queue of messages going to it, possibly leading to a disconnect. This might point to a viewer issue - which viewer version are you on, exactly?
I also want to add that we have a simulator update happening this week which should hopefully alleviate viewer-region connection issues, including initial login to sim, teleports, and region crossings:
It was deployed to the "Second Life Server" channel today (August 4) and is planned to go to the RC channels tomorrow (August 5) as part of the weekly rolls.
