Renaming Notecards breaks permission
needs info
Darkover Nightfall
This is an intermittent issue, happening all over SL at various times, to random people, where renaming a notecard results in the permissions to break where you can't even view them anymore.
This has been ongoing for a couple of months now, and is subject of lots of conversations in our groups.

I still haven't been able to reproduce this issue, but I did find a viewer bug around item renaming while investigating: https://github.com/secondlife/viewer/issues/6062
It seems possible to me that this bug might cause the viewer to hit some sort of throttle if the rename requests were coming in too quickly.
Darkover Nightfall
Maestro Linden i thought it might have something to do with being too fast, so i started pausing before changing the name/hitting enter, which didn't make a difference at all.

Hi Darkover Nightfall Sparkle Twinkle , I have a few questions:
- When you say that permissions break, what permissions does the viewer show for the notecard in 'Item Properties'?
- Does this issue affect notecards in agent inventory, notecards in object inventory, or both?
- Can you point me to an existing notecard asset that's broken with this bug?
- If you hit this issue again, can capture the details of the incident? The details we want are:
- The region name
- The time of the incident
- Viewer logs from the session. To send viewer logs, log out, and then zip up your viewer logs folder. This page tells you where to find the logs folder: https://community.secondlife.com/knowledgebase/english/how-to-report-a-bug-r224/
Next, email the zip file to bug-attachments@lindenlab.com and reference the issue name in the email subject line.
I'm not immediately able to reproduce this with either Second Life Release 26.2.0.25386466510 or Firestorm 7.2.4 (80712) on server 2026-07-10.29122504250. I tried renaming full-permission notecards in agent inventory and also in the inventory of an object that I had just rezzed.
This issue be a viewer bug, if restarting the viewer 'fixes' an affected notecard.
Darkover Nightfall
Maestro LindenI actually i hadn't tried restarting the viewer for this notecard issue, as i was typically within an activity when that happened and it wasn't practical to relog.
As the issue is intermittent, it does not surprise me that you weren't able to reproduce it.
This is in agent inventory, haven't tested it in object inventory.
The affected notecards, which are now in Trash (if not purged yet), do open normally now in Trash, and i think some of them are even without a relog, so that's interesting. I don't have a "broken" notecard to check right now for permissions, sorry.
Maybe it ends up being a viewer issue, but it is definitely widespread and affects many of us.
Maestro Linden
Darkover Nightfall: Okay, thanks for the feedback. I added 1 more question about gathering details of future incidents of this bug.
Sparkle Twinkle
Maestro Linden Sorry, I don't have a broken NC right now so when the next one occurs I'll check for that info for you. Oh and I'm also on 7.2.4 (80712).
Sparkle Twinkle
Maestro Linden Oh and from my experiences so far this has only occurred in my (agent) inventory.
Darkover Nightfall
Maestro Linden I will follow up when it happens again, some days there's none, other days it's almost constant.
Maestro Linden
Darkover Nightfall: Great, if it happens again please send those notes about the incident including a viewer log.
Sparkle Twinkle
Yes, this has definitely been happening to me. I have found though, that logging out and back in usually resets the NCs so they can be viewed. This, however, is very inconvenient if it's important to utilize the NC in the current session because of a time-sensitive scenario!
