Kudos to everyone at Linden Lab who upgraded the SL Wiki to a more recent version! (Now if only SVG uploads got fixed as well...)
I've been experimenting with the Dark Mode on the SL Wiki, and I understand that it's "still in beta" and likely "under construction", but I found some very easy CSS fixes to implement to make Dark Mode at least
functional
.
Because, right now, all text (body & titles/headers) are rendered in black over a very dark background, making everything essentially unreadable.
The culprit comes from the following bit of CSS (I apologise; I don't know
exactly
where the snippet comes from; this is what I get from the Developer Tools on Brave/Chromium):
.api-constructor p {
border: solid 1px #AAAAAA;
font: 10pt courier;
white-space: pre;
color: black;
background: #F9F9F9;
padding: 10px 0 10px 30px;
text-indent: -20px
}
[...]
#bodyContent,
.firstHeading,
h1 {
color: black;
}
#bodyContent h1,
#bodyContent h2,
#bodyContent h3,
#bodyContent h4,
#bodyContent h5,
#bodyContent h6 {
padding: 0px 0px 4px 0px;
margin: 20px 0px 0px 0px;
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Sans-Serif;
font-weight: bold;
color: black
}
h1 .editsection,
h2 .editsection,
h3 .editsection,
h4 .editsection,
h5 .editsection,
h6 .editsection {
padding: 0px;
margin: 0px;
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Sans-Serif;
font-size: 14px;
font-weight: bold;
color: black
}
The attached images show what happens by default and how manually switching from
black
to
white
will immediately fix everything.
However, in this case, neither
black
, nor
white
, are the
correct
settings. Instead, after a bit of digging, there _are_ variables for the colours which
must
be taken into account.
These are summarised under
html.skin-theme-clientpref-night
, which defines things such as
--color-basecce: #eaecf0
or
--background-color-base: #101418
(both of which are already correct for dark mode!).
Thus, all that your web designer(s) need(s) to do is a copy & replace of the relevant instances currently hard-coded as
black
to
var(--color-base)
, and all entries with the background colour set to
white
should be changed to
var(--background-color-base)
instead.
And to make the SL Wiki's design more consistent with the other official SL web pages, you might also consider changing the default font to be
Roboto Flex
instead of having Linux Libertine for the titles and sans-serif for practically everything else.
Sounds simple in practice, but I imagine it's a bit more complex on your side: what gets compacted together as 'only' two CSS files may, in fact, require assembly from several sources...
