LOD information (Rezzables?) on Marketplace
Charlotte Bartlett
Add LOD information to listings so consumers can make an informed decision on the item.
- Field: LOD information values for each of High, Medium and Low (+ Very Low if space).
- Type of LOD: User generated (for those making LODS), SL generated (for those using the automation of LODs upload).
Not sure if you can determine that (It is known at upload, but not sure if the asset is tagged to note this after upload) If users have to input manually it can be open to abuse, but users can then flag the listing and report it if false information from creators is being provided.

So how would this be calculated if I link 50 meshes together? What would happen if I have a default cube as the base prim? How would this affect items with sculpties or are raw sculpties textures? What happens if the items are in a box/unpacker hud? What about items that have a user-generated Medium LOD but the Low and Lowest are SL generated?
Although good in rough concept, this seems like a thing where you'd want demos or to have an inworld shop to look at, since I know at least Firestorm has a way to check LODs visually in the edit menu.
The only way I can think of for something like this working is a massive list of every object in the linkset of every item in the delivery folder, and every item inside any boxes, and potentially other items in the items in that box...
Even just numbers and/or percentages can't mean much if something with 1/3rd of the polycount as the next LOD down looks about the same as the previous unless you zoom in on it closer, triggering the LOD to go up for you. It could be a drastic chunk or nearly the same object, at the same numbers, depending on it's exact numbers and topology.
If there actually is a way to calculate LOD information in a way that's meaningful past 'single object alone in a folder' I'd be fascinated, genuinely, but I think the closest we can get to this is more warnings to the mesh uploader that their polycount is high with clearer percentage suggestions. I'm not sure if we have good warnings at all right now besides it having a high land impact, high upload cost, or when it wordlessly refuses to upload for no apparent reason until you decimate some loopcuts.

If this gets implemented, then add a snippet that will prompt the person listing if the LOD is higher than a threshold. 2, I believe is the default even on Ultra, if they really need a LOD that high and most users won't see the item properly.
