Make a Duplicate Order redeliver instead
tracked

Whenever a customer tries to buy a product that they have already purchased in the past, AND the product's "Automatic redelivery" flag is set to "allowed", instead of charging the customer, simply redeliver the product instead with a message to the customer.
This should also apply to those products purchased as a gift:
1) if the original purchaser tries to buy the same product to the same gift recipient: redeliver with a message.
2) if the gift recipient tries to buy the same product they received as a gift: redeliver with a message.
3) if someone else tries to buy the product as a gift and the recipient already has it: redeliver with a message.
Yes, there is a nice big banner on the product page about already purchased the item, but sometimes people get distracted, or the product was in cart already, and duplicate orders happen and creates extra work for the merchant.
The Caspervend product (and I'm sure other vending products do as well) have a duplicate order check that auto-refunds the customer if they try to buy a product they have already purchased in the past through that system. The Marketplace should have similar safeguards.

Prevent duplicate purchases of copy items on Marketplace
Alaska Metropolitan
I cannot think of a reason why a customer that already bought a copiable item would want to pay for it again, and as a merchant, refunding accidental double purchases is a manual process (where we also "eat" the MP seller fee). I would suggest a setting for stores to not allow double purchase and instead give the customer a button to redeliver. This is an option in Caspervend which prevents a lot of mistaken double purchases and makes customers lives easier.
For extra bonus points, if we ever get tighter integration of Caspervend and MP, it would be amazing if "duplicates" were universal for both systems. For example, today a customer buying something a second time in my store using CV - even if the first purchase was on the MP! - will get a message, refund, and redelivery. But the reverse is not true, the MP will happily take their money again for the same product. It would be nice for this to be synced in both directions.

It SOUNDS like a no-brainer, but my experience is different.
I used to have the Casper option set, but it caused MORE support issues than after having it unset again. From "what are you sending me", to "who are you?", to "why are you sending me this?".
Same goes for the redelivery option on the MP. I used it a few times, each time having it cause a massive increase in support inquiries.
I have a refund-duplicate-purchases policy. VERY few customers take me up on it.
So from a merchant perspective: Double the income, less support queries

Peter Stindberg Hmm... is it possible we are talking about two different options here in CV? Preventing duplicate purchases will, with the settings I have enabled, immediately refund the user on purchase and redeliver the item. I'm confused how that would result in customer confusion or queries when it happens pretty much instantly during their interaction with the vendor. I've never had to do any follow up from this feature at all, since the user is already interacting with store vendors and gets a local chat message with the details.
I'm also not sure what this has to do with the redelivery option on MP that creators can trigger, since this ticket is more about customer self-serve and automatic prevent of duplicate purchases. Hope that clarifies...

Alaska Metropolitan I have a base-product (at 5 L$), that you can extend with various add-ons (50-950 L$).
At first, I had Casper set in a way that you have to have a registered sale of the base product, before you can buy any add-on. That was a disaster! People tried buying the add-on, and weren't able to. Few figured it out (reading is a dying art), few messaged me, the majority - I have to assume - shrugged and went away. When I switched that off, sales JUMPED.
Next I switched on the "redeliver instead of buying new feature". I see a regular pattern where a customer buys 1-2 things from me, doesn't do anything with them for 2 years, and then buys them anew. Or where they got a free product during an event (S&H for example), and then buys the same product a few months later in-world. So I thought it would be customer-friendly to switch on that option, but to my surprise, it seemed to confuse some people. I can't explain it myself, other than people don't properly read what's on their screen.
At that point, I basically gave up and said 'oh well'. There's less than a handful of people each year asking for a refund, and sometimes, when I see they made an expensive purchase, I go ahead and refund+contact them.
It might be that my products are very niche. I rarely have casual sales. So your experience most likely will be much different.
Mind you, all this is for inworld purchases. Your suggestion was for MP purchases. We DO have the banner "you purchased this product on xx.yy.zzzz" at the top of the listing. I didn't count how many duplicate purchases I got on the MP - probably few. I know that banner prevented me from doing duplicate purchases in the past. Again, for people who don't read, your idea has merit.

Peter Stindberg Ah, that makes a lot of sense then for your store and use case! I think the ideal for my proposal would be that store owners could control if they prevent duplicate MP purchases or not, based on their preference (like it is in CV), rather than a global MP functionality.

I like the idea of notifying a purchaser of an already owned item. That could be done either at the add to cart stage or buy now stage. But in no case is a redelivery necessary.
The value of #3 is more difficult for me and it seems like an avenue of abuse. A person could determine if someone owns an item or not. Perhaps something they might want to keep private. I think notifying a gift giver they are buying a duplicate should be limitable by the recipient (all users) user to choices like notify, never notify, only notify friends. Otherwise, the purchase is processed as usual.

2 and 3 would be nice features
