New Marketplace design too bright in Dark Mode

The most recent re"design" of the Marketplace overloads you with bright bold text in Dark Mode.
A lot of people use Dark Mode to avoid sensory overload. The recent design choices make that impossible.
Please revert to the old design.

Could you explain a bit more what you find to be too bright with the new UI changes? The text being larger?
Peter Stindberg
Juniper Linden I am affected by gradual photosensitivity: In short, I am very sensitive to bright lights. Usually not a big deal, especially not during daytime, but one thing that is really helpful is switch every software/website to "dark mode".
The old navigation in dark mode had a contrast of 5.28 : 1 between the colors #A09687 for menus and #232527 for background (which is still beyond the 4.5 recommended by WCAG).
The new contrast is 5.18 : 1 between #00A1D6 for menus and #232527 for background. While it is in fact less contrast with the blue - I was quite surprised to notice, it feels as if a spotlight is beamed right into my eyes.
The navigation on the page is not the main thing, yet its color demands a lot of attention.
I see a few questionable design choices here.
The SL hand, with its color, is a decorative element. The color should be used as a highlight element, sparsely used, to not devalue it. Using it in an inflationary way all over makes it obnoxious.
Secondly, the color itself reminds of colors traditionally used for links. While the vast majority of uses of that color is for links indeed, not ALL uses of that color are links, thus potentially confusing people.
When using hover (in dark mode), the highlighted element becomes LESS prominent than the others.
And also visited links don't show a different colour.
I just switched off dark mode and it is actually BETTER: The color is a nice dark blue, different from the hand, still demanding too much attention, but much better.
Guess I need to write my own CSS :-/

Peter Stindberg to your point, since we don't have an official "dark mode", what happens with an extension is a little out of our hands. an official pallet designed for a dark mode would use different colors which would ideally help with the issue you're having. (We do have the desire to implement one, but I don't hold the cards on what gets prioritized as much as I wish I did :/ )
As this is an accessibility issue, I will of course bring this up with our design team. We've also created a new category for accessibility under Marketplace Features, so I'll move this ticket there and see about adding accessibility as a category for web bugs as well.
We do take all feedback we get seriously, even if it doesn't get implemented as soon as we would like.
