Traffic-light indicator how active the merchant logs in
closed

Create a red/amber/green indicator dot next to the merchant's name, where
- green: The merchant has logged in at least once in the past 90 days
- amber: The merchant has logged in at least once in the past 360 days
- red: The merchant has not logged in in over a year
This is the easeiest way to find out wether any store on the MP has a halfway active owner. It will come with the least possible overhead (no counting how many logins, no tracking how long the logins are), but will still give MP customers a basic indication how active a store is. Also the suggested timeframes won't place too much of a burden on stores run by an alt.
Yes, it's not a perfect solution. Yes, some merchants might fall through the cracks. Yes, there is a lot of room for improvement and sophistication. BUT it is the most simple way todo it, AND will be helpful for customers.
Note to the Linden checking this post: I was an avid reader/contributor to JIRA, and Canny since the switch - up to my knowledge, this super-simple indicator was NOT brought up before.

Hello, and thank you for your feature request.
Incoming suggestions are reviewed in the order they are received by a team of Lindens with diverse areas of expertise. We consider a number of factors: Is this change possible? Will it increase lag? Will it break existing content? Is it likely that the number of residents using this feature will justify the time to develop it? This wiki page further describes the reasoning we use: Feature Requests
This particular suggestion, unfortunately, cannot be tackled at this time. However, we regularly review previously deferred suggestions when circumstances change or resources become available.
We are grateful for the time you took to submit this feature request. We hope that you are not discouraged from submitting others in the future. Many excellent ideas to improve Second Life come from you, our residents. We can’t do it alone.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Second Life.

It's easy to put the MP items in MOST RECENT order and see the newest stuff on top. That seems like the best option.
Peter Stindberg
Dana Enyo This is basically the only option there is right now. However, it has its shortcomings.
I have an item from 2009 which I still update regularly, and which still sells a couple fo times a week. I use the "version number" field to show the date of the last update, but it would never show up in MOST RECENT.
I have an item from 2007, which I do NOT update regularly (because the nature of the item does not require updates), but which also sells a few times a month (and is still perfectly valid, and won't disappoint buyers). It would never show up in MOST RECENT.
My simple suggestion - and other more complex suggestions proposed by others - would assure potential buyers that I am still an active developer, that my shop is actively maintained, and that they could contact me should an issue arise.
Despite the chatbots reply on August 28, my suggestion is still the easiest giving potential customers a good information.
Dana Enyo
Peter Stindberg Thanks! Darn good point that.

Maybe it's way easier to include a 'date added' and 'date updated' to each product on MP?

Arduenn Schwartzmann How would you propose stopping store owners from gaming such a system?
If freshness becomes important, owners will be incentivized to keep the update date current. All of a sudden a 5 year old item could be "refreshed" with a new date when it is, in fact, the same old product.
It may not be an issue. Or LL could look for potential fraud based on behavior changes like "store owner rarely updates objects starts updating regularly. Need to investigate."

Cuddles Supply > How would you propose stopping store owners from gaming such a system?
I can ask you exactly the same question in relation to the original proposal. It would equally be easy, if not easier for store owners to game the system by automatically logging into SL
Cuddles Supply
Arduenn Schwartzman I didn't make the original proposal and don't think it would be useful anyway. Even with the potential of gaming the system, I do like the idea of adding dates to products and there was a feature request a few months back which I give an up-doot to.

Arduenn Schwartzman Two different pairs of shoes (and suggested in the past). Even a product that has been added a long time ago (like many of your products, btw) are still valid and active and good, despite being old. My suggestion aims more at informing potantial buyers how active the creator/merchant is, not how new/old the product is.

We understand the importance of having a simple and effective way to gauge merchant activity, and your suggestion aligns well with previous feedback. While we have no estimate on when this feature might be implemented, please keep an eye on future updates. We appreciate your input and hope you continue to share your ideas to help improve Second Life. Thank you!
