Everything going into the main folder creates inventory chaos. Especially for new users.

It would be nice if creators could somehow use an identification system for their folders that would insert the folder into the correct location upon unpacking the product. For example, if I'm selling clothes, it would be preferable for the unpacked folder to show up in the CLOTHES section of the buyer's inventory rather than every person needing to drag it into the correct place. Likewise, if I'm selling a bunch of textures, it would be nice to be able to internally "mark" (perhaps in properties) that my product should go into the Textures folder once unpacked. ***NOTE: Users should still be able to copy/paste/drag these folders wherever they choose if they prefer a different location.

While this is a good idea as someone sitting with over 200,000 in their inventory 🫠 I do believe that a lot of people would want to organize their inventory in a way that suits them... especially when creator's name something as tye dye and don't add bikini on the end

Maybe have some sort of system of labels for items (think similar to the labels e.g. Grafana uses for logs, metrics,...), something like creator, store name, clothing category (swimwear, dress, pants,...) and then allow the user to define a path in their inventory that can use those as placeholders?

Mmm, I wouldn't want to have all my new items scattered to different folders by default - I'd rather see a system-level folder just for new inventory and then I can decide where I want to put it. We already have a Received Items folder for Marketplace purchases - why not use that?

Great idea but not to have a fixed viewer level folder that everything lands in but to allow everyone to designate a target folder, similar to CatZip. Have the option to select a folder / sub-folder (e.g. by fair, by object type, demo, etc.) or just use the default setup earlier by the person.

I think it's true there are pro's and cons to this "automated targeting of stuff". While notecards always go in notecards, and textures in textures, the root of the problem is that what we call Object can be many different types of things in SL. and a folder sent by a creator could have different objects for different things. I would not want my new dress folder, which contains a hud, 3 dress sizes, a belt, a box with a backup in it, an accessory, all to go in separate folders if they belong with that dress. It's quite tricky I think to get this right so it's useful and not making things worse.

This was part of my idea for labels / tags, and different variants of them. You can read my comments on this post here, where I also refer back to an old Jira post of mine: https://feedback.secondlife.com/feature-requests/p/add-custom-tags-to-inventory-items and I believe it was this Jira post I made: https://github.com/secondlife/jira-archive/issues/10988

Catznip does this by letting users choose the folders to save to. Might be good to see if Kitty's code for that can be integrated into newer viewers

I second this. I love Catznip's inventory management features, especially choosing which folder I want to receive an item into.

Aunty Lockjaw Catzip sounds great, but I shouldn't have to use a secondary program or 3rd party viewer. it should be built into SL.

This is a terrible idea because if I unpack an item and it goes into the top level folder under Inventory, then I know where to find it. If that item ends up in an already populated folder it will be hard to find. Consider pants, they should go under Clothes. Makes sense. What about a HUD? What about a weapon? What about a wearable vehicle? So on and so forth. As difficult as it seems to manage inventory, and we all struggle, if you don't know where something lands it's impossible to find. I already have trouble finding some newly unpacked items due to store's naming schemes.

Cuddles Supply you can see where it went in your Recent tab pretty easily. Sort by Time, also. It'll be right on the top.

Cuddles Supply I'm the OP, and actually this was a thought I had when asking for this feature, but also if a clothing designer marks their product as "CLOTHING", it wouldn't become buried in my sub-folders. It would still go into the Largest clothing folder. But this would still be better than being in the Main inventory window or Objects, which are very messy sections foir most avatars.

Love this idea, would be helpful for new users!
