Add an option to disable comments and stars on products in a MP store

Frankly i m bored of stupid users, always the same, that fire a "1-star" without even testing a product, just because it's not their day ... especially on offered products.
Let them spend their nerves elsewhere. I create products and i don't care about stars, knowing that the mass of real users usually don't lose time making comments.
Anyway, if products are not corresponding to the description; users can simply flag them to LL ...

I disagree.
A review and rating system can be an invaluable tool to a creator. Taking criticism can be hard. Especially if a product has taken a lot of time.
A single bad 1-star rating is not the end of the world. As you said, by your own words you "don't care about the stars".
But if a product, or multiple products in a store receive an overwhelmingly majority of poor ratings then it could mean it is time to take a critical and objective look at the product, and TRUTHFULLY ask themselves if there is merit to the feedback or if everyone is being a "meanie poopoohead" instead of lashing out at the reviewers in DMs, and asking LL to effectively remove the entire community's ability to give feedback on products.

heheh I think reviews are important. but maybe a different solution? let store owner likewise rate their commentors. If their ratio of bad store over reviews vs total number of comments exceeds a certain amount then they get a 1star icon on their profile pic and all the comments that have a lower than X review get filtered and are not seen. Like a troll filter... to have that removed they would either need to get good ratings from store owns at an equal rate or just good ratings without review of the comment as a reduced rate.. Oh and repeated good comments from the same store face diminishing returns bad don't. That was if they are specifically trolling one store.. they can't have a mates store act as a healer for their reputation as a commenter..
The other point not mentioned from the quick scan here... Is how store owners respond to bad comments... not sure I have seen many on MP.. but elsewhere I've seen many examples of 1 star reviews that maybe not from a numbers point of view but certainly from a willingness to convert point of view. That has been purely based on the owners reply, That could be a brutal but witty troll take down, or heart-warming example of CS at it's finest. Even without rating getting taken into account a good reaction to a bad review is worth way more than a another 5* "is amazing..". But if you wanted to incorporate that into actual numbered rating, Why not have it so that each top level comment is an aggregate of the sub-comments? Would probably want to reduce the value of each level of depth the comments go. 50% per level maybe?
The problem with turning reviews off however is I would assume that the rating are a little more than a visual indicator and that they are actually used in the ordering of the products on the SERP. Which, if that is the case, then what do you do to people with ratings turned off. The obvious answer would be 2.5, but where does that end up basically any one under the line would see that as a way to clear out their bad ratings. This is a total downward spiral. Every time someone dropped below 2.5 they would just have to turn off reviews/rating to stick permanently at 2.5 with would make 0-2.5 redundant.
I do think that it's a lot more complicated than just it's my choice "I would like them turned off.." What if you change your mind at some point? If you had reviews before they were switched off I guess probably should return as they were. In which case you'd be back at square one.
And yeah I know I've just lobbed multi alternative suggestions into the mix. ((ohh feature request idea)) If any of them have legs and people think are worth looking into further say and I will write them up as standalone feature requests ;)

Woolfyy Resident I wasn't say not to have that but there needs to be a mechanism that it's not just used as a get out of being a bad merchant free card like maybe saying that if you have a mean rating below a certain point that the option is disabled until you get above that rating. And maybe have it so that when that is introduced its' open for every one fore a short period of time... no matter what rating they have.. then after that grace period you need to have a average rating about the midpoint to tun it off or on... Any ratings are held onto from before the switch and go back if you were to chose to switch back to a rated account... but what you really don't want is an assumption being created that if a shop has not ratings shown they that shop is one that has a rating of 2 or lower... which is what would happen if you just allowed people to turn ratings off whenever they chose to.
Even adding a date to when ratings were turned off would introduce an whole other level to this (under the assumption of the grace period applied.. as you'd have the grace period where anyone with a bad rating switch it off.... then the savy business owners that had a good rating but didn't like ratings would work out that if they waited till after the grace period to turn off the ratings then that would signal that they had the option to do so thereby showing that they are just in disagreement with the ratings but didn't switch when they had a free chance to as they couldn't otherwise..
Basically I was trying to say that you are not a fan of the ratings.. you should be allowed a way to turn them off.. but should that come at the costs of tanking the rating system to make them even more ineffective as you put it for everyone that might like them? I agree that creators should have freedom to pick if they want to have ratings or not but just by adding that option straight in like you suggest is going to screw it up badly and thereby screwing things up for those that choose to keep it. So I was trying to think of ways to enable your option without screwing over those that want it.
If you can think of a way to do that I would support this request and I think it would probably have a much better chance of being implemented okay?

People run in-world stores to circumvent the imbalanced review system, which is a significant burden and unfair to sellers.
Therefore, if in-world stores don't have a rating system, we could also deactivate ratings on the marketplace, as proposed by the original poster (OP).
Alternatively, we could redesign the entire review system to make it functional and useful. I would welcome this too.
Here is my own request:
Aglaia Resident
i agree with this. 99% of bad reviews are written by customers who haven't read the notecard and haven't tried to contact the seller. Instead they will jump on the review form and write a destructive review. I know several store owners who stopped selling on the marketplace cause of this. The review system can be extremely scaring and depressing, really. Most users of SL don't realize how cruel and mean the review system can be.
Mikalana Davonius
This is the most knee-jerk reaction I've seen to a bad review, I think...
As a shopper, if any seller were to actually disable reviews or comments, I
guarantee
I will not be buying from them.If they have so little faith in their product that they have to disable reviews, then why should I have any faith that their product is worth buying?
Fullperm Alpha
Mikalana Davonius We need also a buyer rating as implemented in ebay.
Mikalana Davonius
Woolfyy Resident you made this request in reference to a negative review from someone you then reviewbombed in retaliation.
You are just salty.
You know what; alternate suggestion. Users should be penalized for posting bad faith reviews.
Gwyneth Llewelyn
Mikalana Davonius how would you assess what is a "bad faith review" and who would be the judge of that?
That's always the issue, right?
Cuddles Supply
Disagree. While there are some unfounded negative reviews and comments, discerning readers can determine for themselves if the reviews are worth while or not. It ought not be up to store owners to remove or alter them. Shoppers often have no other recourse but reviews to call out poor products or service.
Cuddles Supply
Woolfyy Resident No, considering buyers have no recourse, not even refunds, there should be a mechanism to warn others of sub standard products.
Sadly, there are some buyers who don't read descriptions, or don't understand them, get pissed off and leave a bad review. That's not good for anyone. But Owners can leave comments to reviews.
On rare occasions I have come across products where the demo worked well but the delivered product was not the same AND each time (again, rare but happens) the shop owner refused to make good.
If you don't like reviews, don't put things up for sale. That also couldn't be simpler.
Cuddles Supply
Woolfyy Resident You keep saying "don't buy products if they don't have stars and reviews" (I am assuming you are referring to your preferred method of store owners can disable those features) like its a threat.
You realize that market places are symbiotic relationships. Store owners need customers as much as customers need places to buy. Let's say LL decided to allow store owners to disable comments and reviews and a store owner did. In reaction, what if buyers stopped buying from them (or even a vast majority?) Everyone loses. Customers lose because they can't buy the thing they want. Store owners lose sales.
At least customers can shop elsewhere. Store in the SL market place have one population of customers to draw from.
Regardless, this discussion has crossed over into the silly.
Best of luck with your marketplace feature request.

Codex Alpha Here is my proposal for buyer incentives to leave a good rating when satisfied:

Woolfyy Resident freedom for creators is not to get subjected to anything at all and just open their shops in-world... or set up a separate web-based system (it's
way
easier than it might seem!)."Freedom" is never absolute. The "freedom" in the choice of having their items listed on the Marketplace or not, if the creator disagrees with its policies. But if they
want
to take advantage of the Marketplace, they need to adhere to its guidelines. If currently that means being easily trolled/bombed... well, that's too bad. What would be a removal of "freedom" would be to
force
creators to sell their content in only one
possible way :)Gwyneth Llewelyn
Woolfyy Resident, you're absolutely right. In SL, market expansion doesn’t occur because of more consumers — it’s driven by pure innovation. The latest Trendy Next Thing™ catches fire, fuelling its own growth, but at the cost of content creators constantly learning new things to please their ever-demanding customers.
Not all innovation stems from LL introducing new technology. Often, it’s a mix of chance, luck, and technical skill that leads to something new, and suddenly, every content creator must adopt it to stay competitive. Remember SL before Animation Overriders? Even newbie freebies include them now. Yet, they’re still purely in-world devices, despite Firestorm’s push to integrate AOs into the viewer, where they arguably belong.
As SL’s population continues to shrink despite LL’s efforts, the main driver for content purchases remains technological advances.
Sure, nobody needs 10 houses or 100 outfits, let alone 600,000 inventory items. But in 2024, how many would still live in a house made of badly-textured prims? Some do, for nostalgia, but let’s ignore the edge cases. How many would forfeit their Bento bodies for good old Ruth and primmy shoes, even if masterfully crafted with Invisiprim?
It would be easier for creators if the market kept expanding without the need to innovate constantly. During the 2007 Golden Age, SL’s explosive growth meant even low-quality creators like me could sell something, simply because demand was overwhelming. Top-tier creators couldn’t cover everything, so even tiny creators had a chance. Those who had just learned content creation had a brief window to sell their wares until better creators appeared, sweeping them aside.
Today, it’s the opposite: we live in a consumer’s market. Achieving the quality we expect from top-tier creators requires time, talent, and formal 3D modelling training. With all that, plus serious effort in building a community of thousands of followers, top creators continue to innovate, pushing us all to buy their items — even when we already have half a million similar ones in our inventories...

Hello . Stars and comments are needed. People do the same thing to me just to hurt me. But the author of this post is wrong. You will not be able to rate 1 star unless you purchase the item. Unless they put it on the demo version without trying it out. Many manufacturers today produce defective products. They don’t try them on themselves when they tie them on many bodies and work according to a template, and very often there are a lot of holes. And many creators don't respond to defects. Although the cost of their products is not small. But by leaving a comment, other buyers will find out and will already notice that this product is defective. But I agree with you that there are many pests who are simply jealous and give bad ratings to gifts or demos, and in most cases unreasonably. I would like to have a staff member assigned to this topic to help the creators. Today this is a complex process. There is a checkbox, but no button, that will sort your pest into the correct category where an employee can identify it. Mostly envious people put 1 star on a demo or as a gift. But I think sometimes it's useful that there is a low rating and you, as the creator, can correct the shortcoming. Otherwise, many will begin to produce low-quality products and will enjoy impunity and get rich at the expense of defective but beautiful covers.
Fneil8 Resident
You just need to add the category
Unfounded review
where the checkbox is and instruct the employee to check if this is true. And he will cleanse. Today this is being done, I have already written more than once with a request to remove this unfounded review. And they cleaned it up for me. But this process is complicated because there is no button and you just need to write a letter and a request that will be considered. I think to simplify things, we need to add a category Unfounded review
and it will be much easier for everyone.Fneil8 Resident

You are not right . I will repeat. If you disable the ratings and comments function, the creators will begin to abuse the quality. Many, just like you, don’t give a damn today, despite the low rating and comments and requests in a personal message and with a note, they, just like you, ignore and do not fix their own marriage. They are in a hurry to create a new one, another defective one, and they have no time to fix it. I would add one more function to the market) to remove defective goods from those who do not correct errors. Of course, not on my own, with the help of moderators and the
Uncorrected defect
button. I buy a complete Perm. It often breaks and is of poor quality. What should I tell the client? How to send to the creator if I was selling holey things that I didn’t create. I am ashamed of such sellers of Full Perm. They don't have time to fix it! They took the money and are not interested in anything else, although I asked in private messages to either return the money or fix it. I have these things lying around, just throw them away, but I just threw my money in the trash. It’s a shame to sell them even for 1 lind! Here's an example! The model is good, but there are holes in different places and piercings in the air. This needs to be fixed because it costs more than 10 Lindas, which is not a pity. And it's a pity even for 10 linds because I can load one texture. And I don’t have extra funds to throw away like that. I don't live, I survive in Ukraine. And this money would be useful to me for real life. I like this company for its models and ideas, but the quality leaves much to be desired and therefore I don’t want to buy from them anymore. They lose their clients by not caring. They don't have time to fix things.

You don’t read me and selfishly think only about yourself) I have nothing against your products, I didn’t buy about you. you are not asking for yourself, but all the other thousands of creators will fall under your request. Who will take advantage of the fact that they are not noted and they will not make their products in good faith. I'm not talking about all creators! There are a lot of good ones, but among them there are those who will abuse them. Therefore, there is no need to ask for something that can harm others. Since you don't care, then don't pay attention to these star ratings, just do your job. The only thing you can ask for is to add a button to remove unfair reviews. I won’t discuss with you why I bought it. It doesn’t matter anymore, what’s done is done. I trusted this seller and didn’t try on the demo.. it’s such a beautiful model, I couldn’t even think that there were so many rough holes there. ))) You shouldn’t take it upon yourself to write what I write. I’m generalizing because this topic concerns everyone. What makes you think that I don’t like Full Perm Creators? It’s thanks to them that I survive and thanks to them for the high-quality interesting models.)

Fneil8 Resident I dont think the OP is wrong: basically he says "please deactivate the non balanced and non functional review system".
I agree to this as a quick fix.
Aglaia Resident
Fneil8 Resident There is no review system for inworld sales and that has never been a problem, so i think reviews and ratings are totally optional. We can live without them.
As a seller, the review system is the only thing that annoys me at an extreme point. I have aound 2000 reviews about my items in my store, 99% of them are good reviews, but the 1% of bad reviews have always been a big trouble and big frustation to me. Usually these are people who haven't read the userguide, or try to use in a non-sense way (like rezing a hud instead of wearing it, or complaining because their object won't rez in a place where they have no rez rights, or think the product is broken however they are just in a no-script parcel, etc) haven't tried to contact me, and won't even reply my message when i contact them after reading their review to try to help them. This is not acceptable to me and something must be done. I hope the different feedbacks, including this one, will bring to something positive.
Akiv Wizardly
I completely understand your frustration with unconstructive reviews and ratings. It's disheartening to see people leave negative feedback without giving your product a fair chance. Your dedication to creating quality products is admirable, and it's important to focus on the positive impact you're making rather than the occasional unhelpful comment.
Remember, most users who are satisfied with your products may not always leave reviews, but they appreciate your hard work and creativity.
Fullperm Alpha
Akiv Wizardly Ebay motivates users to leave a good rating when satisfied. So the rating is more balanced.

SL Feedback Since this ticket is being considered, I would like to ask the employee to remove the video from the main profile page. When you go from the market to your main profile, there is a video that needs to be watched a million times. I have poor eyesight and this video makes me dizzy. I would like the transition to be without animated different pictures. As before and without delays. It takes a lot of time to wait each time for the login sign to appear. Or if there is a button to turn off this useless advertising. It is not needed in this place for people who already know the game.
