When managing the user experience at extremely popular locations (such as Community Roundtable gatherings, SLB events, Major Sales, etc) it can be very helpful to 'disable rendering' of things like Animeshes, Particles, Nametags, and Avatars. The menu at Advanced > Rendering Types offers most of these functions, but to turn on/off the name tags (which can animate wildly in such situations) requires navigating to Me > Preferences and then navigating to the General tab, then working with the controls presented on the preferences floater. While yes, there is additional functionality in the Preferences pane, in terms of the "Show Briefly" and the related time setting, it could perhaps be implemented in such a way that toggling name tags off/on via the Rendering Types menu, could toggle between 'off' and whichever of the other two settings was previously stored (whether that was 'on' or 'show briefly') The feature toggle's absence from this "Rendering Types" menu, seems more like an oversight, than an intentional design choice, and it's inclusion would make managing name tags, along with other rendering types, easier, especially in high lag situations where opening and navigating multiple menus and floater windows may be challenging.

Something that I think that would help in Second life, especially with those that do not like the User interface to be present so much at the bottom or the sides, is a collapsible User interface Button. What would that look like? Well you know how you get a hud and you can close that hud, make it smaller? and it's tucked away somewhere in the corner? That's what it will look like. (I recommend the Collapsible U.I. button to be the S.L hand Icon) If you do this, they can hide that part of the U.I without having to Alt + shift + U to hide everything and they don't have to take off the buttons they want to keep on that toolsbar. It would just be a transparent icon that you can click to close and click to open at any time. This would help make the screen feel less cluttery and would put more of the scene into the picture. It would help feel less overwhelming to the eyes, because less is in your face, constantly. I feel like the less that is on the screen, the less cluttery it feels.

Allowing us to hide our crosshairs will probably be the best thing you ever did to the SL viewer.

I would like to be able to keep track of say, Local chat, or certain IMs, or manage inventory, without having the whole viewer window open - essentially allowing internal viewer windows to be popped out to a window seperate from the viewer.

Philip might be the only Linden who remembers this but - we use to have a brilliant Windlight interface - see photo. Instead of a color chart popping up when you wanted to adjust the lighting - you used sliders - which changed the light in real time so you could monitor your surroundings instead of trying to move a clutter of windows around trying to see what you’re trying to light. The open window at the top of the picture was for time of day - which actually changed the lighting progressively from day to night. The Sun/Moon - East Angle in the bottom window moved them like keylights while preserving your overall lighting. I could have the windlight window off in the corner and use it for active adjustments while filming - and could save adjustments as I went along as new settings. Not in this picture was the day cycle editor - simple and obvious. I don't have much hope of this getting fixed - but with Philip back, I thought I'd ask one last time. There are often times when using the inworld viewer World Map when I would also like to see the outline of all the parcels on sim regions and in neighbouring sims grid-wide. Yes, there is already a "Show Properties Lines" in the Mini Map, but it's very small, limited to the area directly around you and won't show the whole SL grid at once. I like long distance journeys across SL and I use these properties lines as a guide of where I can and cannot go, as the Mini Map can also show the "ban lines" status of parcels too. So I propose that "Show Properties Lines" (and ban line status) could be another filter added to the World Map and have options to toggle it on and off, just as the "Land Auction" option has. This option could also be used by various people in planning expansions to their parcels or sim regions.

Just remove it altogether. I can't recall the last time I have used classifieds to any success, and I have never in my entire time on second life used classifieds to find anything. The name itself shows how dated this feature is

It would be useful to pass arguments to floaters opened via the viewer's URI Name Space. The Firestorm viewer does support this, the official Second Life viewer does not.
